COUNTRY MARKET - The Country market is open at Mayfair community centre tomorrow (Friday) from 9.15am - 11.45am selling homemade produce.

GARDEN PARTY - Hurry along to The Orchard, Ryton, SY5 7LU on Saturday to a garden party hosted by David and Anita Oliver. Open from 1.30pm - 4pm.

QUIZ NIGHT - A quiz night with Ken Willis as question master will be held at the district club on Saturday, starting at 7.30pm, to support local lad Scott McKenzie to raise funds for a place at New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts.

OPEN GARDEN - Church Preen open garden on Sunday will be in aid of leukaemia and lymphoma research.

Open from 2pm there will be music and cream teas, served in the village hall if wet RUGBY - A touch rugby session will take place at Church Stretton school on Monday from 7 - 8pm and is open to all male players 17 years and over, whatever their experience and ability.

KABOODLE - Shayne and Hazel from Kaboodle will be climbing Ben Nevis on Monday, an ascent of 4409 feet, and raising funds for Classrooms in the Clouds. Shayne is also planning to run the Ludlow 12K race for the Severn Hospice, and in October he will take on the Cardiff half marathon for Classrooms in the Clouds. To sponsor either of these events, pop into Kaboodle and put some coins in the box.

GREEN PARTY - The next meeting of the Green party will be on Monday at the Acorn Café at 10.30am followed by an evening meeting at the Feathers Hotel in Ludlow at 7.30pm on Tuesday.

SHROPSHIRE SINGS - On Monday a number of schools will be joining together at Church Stretton school to take part in a mass sing. St Lawrence’s Choir and classes eight and nine will have the opportunity to sing with a live band and children from other schools in Shropshire Sings. Tickets will be available soon.

SCHOOL NEWS - St Lawrence’s primary school pupils just pipped Lydbury North school to win the South Shropshire Kwik Cricket Tournament recently, and the tag rugby team will be playing in the Midlands final at Five Ways Old Edwardians. Class two had been on a visit to Attingham Park where they were able to look at the portraits in the house before exploring the grounds in the afternoon. Class seven will have a French farm day and an instrumental music showcase assembly will be held when parents and carers are welcome to attend. Year six pupils will soon spend a day at Church Stretton school and the reception pupils visit St Lawrence’s.

TUBS4TABLETS - Flora, in partnership with Tesco, is launching a scheme called Tubs4Tablets, and tokens can be found on special tubs of Flora at Tesco.

If the school can collect 100 tokens it will be able to obtain an ASUS MeMO pad. Please take collected tokens to the school.

SUMMER CONCERT - The Laurence Singers from south Manchester will be in concert at Church Stretton School on July 6, at 7.30pm, raising funds for the RNLI. Tickets cost £9 including a glass of wine or soft drink and are being sold through John Thomas Florists and committee members.

PLANT SALE - A plant sale on July 6 will take place at 6 Ragleth Road, by permission of Mr D Small. The event opens at 10am - 12.30pm and is for Cancer Research UK.

SKITTLES - A skittles night at the district club welcomes players of all ages on July 6 at 7pm. Entry is £5 per team of two to four players.

LEASOWES BANKS - Music at Leasowes Bank starts on July 6 and continues on Wednesday and Saturday evenings at 8pm until July 20. To find out more ring 01743 790769.

CANCER CARE - Stretton and Shropshire Cancer Care group will be out and about at the next meeting on July 8 with a visit to Shipton Hall in Corvedale. There will be a private guided tour of the house followed by a light afternoon tea, also giving time to visit the dovecot, the church and Stanway Fabrics. There have been some interesting talks during the past few months including one by Joe Collins on ‘mindfulness’ together with some simple starting exercises. Joe will be running a further series of courses in July at Mayfair. Contact Joe on 07906 081907. A research study conducted by the Manchester University School of Nursing looked at the effectiveness of acupuncture for cancer-related fatigue in patients with breast cancer. The results of the study were quite promising and further work is now being carried out to assess costs and benefits of delivering acupuncture for this type of cancer in the NHS.

WIVES AND FRIENDS - For the July meeting Methodist Wives and Friends will be organising a treasure hunt by car. Visitors are welcome to join in and should meet at the Methodist hall at 6.45pm on July 9 for car sharing.

GARDEN OUTING - The gardening club has arranged a half day outing to Roy Strong’s The Lasketts Garden on July 9. Afterwards, afternoon tea will be provided in the Pilgrim Hotel. TREE GROUP - Meet at the lower gate to Rectory Field on July 10, if you would like to join with the tree group on a walk led by Edward Andrews of Shropshire Council at 6.30 - 8.30pm which he has called Understanding Rectory Wood and Field. Visitors are welcome.

SMALLHOLDERS - The Smallholders Group will be visiting Stretton Mineral Water Company on July 11 and will round off the evening with a meal at the Green Dragon Inn, Little Stretton.

They also plan to have a stand at Burwarton Show and at Minsterley Show. The Smallholders Group sourced an interesting piece of information which states that a species of Russian dandelion is set to become one of the most important plants on the planet, propping up civilisation with rubber made from the glutinous milky sap found in its roots. An Indian-Dutch company has rolled out the first prototype tyres produced from European-grown rubber, and if tests go well they hope to start full production in 2015. This new source of rubber will help to meet the rising demand for the product since demand is projected to outstrip supply of synthetic rubber, which is mainly produced from fossil fuels, in the near future.

SSIF - The South Shropshire Interfaith Forum will be next Thursday, July 4 at 12 noon, at the Pilgrim Centre, in Craven Arms, SY7 9NY for a round table discussion, for an hour long chat on the subject One God - The Doctrine of the trinity led by Tim Jessiman.
