COUNTRY MARKET - The country market at Mayfair community centre will be open for business tomorrow (Friday) from 9.15am-11.45am selling cakes, produce and crafts.

JUMBLE SALE - A jumble sale in aid of Rose Cottage Cat Rescue takes place at the parish centre on Saturday from 2 - 3.30pm. Donations of items from the sale may be left at the centre during the morning of the sale.

GARDEN TRAILS - Ten gardens at Cardington will be open to the public on Sunday from 12 noon to 6pm, admission £5. There are also 20 gardens open in Clun on Saturday and Sunday, from 2 - 6pm with £5 entrance.

SPONSORSHIP - Support Elaine at the Post Office with sponsorship as she runs in the Shrewsbury half marathon on Sunday for teenage cancer.

STRAWBERRY TEA - A strawberry tea will be held at the URC hall and gardens on Monday from 2.15 - 3.45pm. Cost is £3.50 with proceeds going to church funds.

OUTING - An outing to John Massey Ashwood Garden will be on Wednesday leaving Church Stretton at 9am from the Sandford Nursing Home and Beaumont Road coach Stop. To enquire for places on the coach ring 01694 720131. This trip is arranged by the local gardening club.

SLEEPOVER - Visiting students used Church Stretton School as a base for their ‘rough’ sleepover last weekend which gave them the experience of the plight of many young homeless people, raising awareness and at the same time raising funds for the cause.

JUNE FAIR - The June fair hosted by Methodist Wives and Friends raised £230, thanks to all who supported the event. The proceeds will go to the Severn Hospice and Mayfair community centre.

GARDEN PARTY - A garden party at The Orchard, Ryton, near Dorrington will take place on June 29 from 1.30 - 4pm. During the afternoon there will be plants, books, bric-a-brac, cards and cakes on sale and refreshments will also be available. Proceeds of the event will benefit Mayfair community centre and the UNA. A ring and ride service will be available by ringing 01694 722077.

CONCERT - The Laurence Singers from Manchester will be in concert at Church Stretton school on July 6 raising funds for the RNLI. Tickets cost £9 including wine or soft drink and are being sold through John Thomas Florists and committee members.

WALK AND TALK - Methodist Wives and Friends met at Carding Mill Valley for a walk and talk by Chris Stratton of the National Trust. An early evening walk gave an interesting insight into the growth and development of Carding Mill Valley from its past history to the present time as an activity and tourist attraction. One of the aims of the National Trust is to develop ideas for future activities to encourage young people to get out and experience the natural environment, some of which is engendered in the activities provided on school visits.

Thanks were expressed to the warden who served up some cups of tea for everyone to enjoy during the short slide show which rounded off the visit.

KABOODLE - If you have any books in good condition which you would like to donate to charity, Kaboodle would appreciate receiving crime stories and other novels, rather than gardening or cookery books, which would be sold for charity.

QUIZ NIGHT - On June 29, will be held at the district club to raise funds for Scott McKenzie’s bid for a place at New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. The event starts at 7.30pm and the question master is Ken Willis.

OPEN GARDENS - Church Preen village will open its gardens on June 30 from 2pm in aid of leukaemia and lymphoma research. Cream tea will be available at the village hall.

RESIDENTIAL COURSE - A two week residential course on permaculture design is due to take place at Karuna near Picklescote starting July 11. To find out more ring 01694 751374.

CHARITY EVENT - Tom Peel will again be hosting a charity event at Ashfield House, Walkmills, Leebotwood, on July 20 from 6pm to late. There will be music, entertainment, food, bar, draw and tombola and topping the bill will be Simply Take That and Robbie T Entertainment. Adult admission is £15 and £5 for the under-15s. Proceeds of the event will go to Birmingham Children’s Hospital (ward 15) and Haematology Unit RSH in association with the South Shropshire Hunt. HOLIDAY CLUB - Time to book in for the holiday club organised by St Laurence’s for the four to 11 year olds which will run from July 24 to 26 at the parish centre providing creative activities for the youngsters.
