COUNTRY MARKET - Tomorrow Friday at Mayfair community centre open for business from 9.15am-11.45am selling cakes, produce and craft items.

WALKING FESTIVAL - The walking festival continues until Sunday offering walks of six to 14 miles arranged to suit all abilities. Fun social evenings with buffet and entertainment are on the programme. To find out more ring 01694 724268.

MUSIC EVENT - Friday (tomorrow) Night at the Horne will feature Whiskey River playing cajun, zydeco, swamp, blues and country music at 7.30pm. Tickets are being sold through John Thomas Florists and Burway Books and cost £9, or £10 at the door.

JUNE FAIR - The June Fair hosted by Methodist Wives and Friends will take place in the Methodist Church hall on Saturday from 10am-12 noon.

Admission is £1 for adults including refreshments, accompanied children free of charge. There will be many stalls, including gifts, books and plants.

The proceeds of this event will go to Mayfair community centre and Severn Hospice, BOOK FAIR - The Church Stretton book fair will be open at the parish centre on Saturday from 10am-4pm and will also feature post cards.

QUIZ - Ken Willis is the quiz master at the district club for a quiz night in aid of Mayfair community centre on Saturday starting at 7.45pm. Entry fee is £3 per person.

BEETLE DRIVE - A beetle drive at Hope Bowdler village hall on Saturday at 7.30pm will raise funds for St Andrew’s Church. Entry is £4 or £2 for the U/16’s.

PIT STOP - A Father’s Day themed pit stop session will take place at the parish centre on Sunday from 3pm- 5pm with games, craft activities songs and a meal. Ring 01694 722588 to find out more.

BRUCE KENT - The Friends’ Meeting House in Shrewsbury will be the venue for a talk by veteran activist Bruce Kent during his national tour 2013 at 3.30pm on Sunday, admission to the talk is free.

OPEN MEETING - Stretton and Shropshire Cancer Care is hosting an open meeting at Mayfair community centre on Monday with a presentation by Caroline Mansell. Caroline is the radiotherapy service manager for Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals and manages the services at the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at the RSH. She has called her talk Radiotherapy in the 21st Century. Everyone welcome to this open meeting.

WALK AND TALK - A walk and talk with National Trust representative Chris Stratton is planned for Tuesday meeting at the Pavilion at 7pm. This event has been arranged by the Methodist Wives and Friends and is open to everyone.

COMMUNITY CINEMA - Presents Les Miserables (12A) at Hope Bowdler village hall on Wednesday starting at 7pm. As the evening will include themed refreshments tickets must be booked in advance. SMALLHOLDERS - The Shropshire Smallholders meet at Leebotwood village hall on Thursday at 7.30pm for a talk by accountant Dave Evans on Smallholding as a Business. There will be the usual sales table and members’ exchange followed by refreshments. At the May meeting Chris Neal gave a fascinating talk on falconry taking along three of his birds including a barn owl, a harris hawk and an Indian eagle owl for his audience to see at close quarters.

SCRAPPIES - Stop throwing away your sweet biscuit wrappers and take them along to Scrappies Scrap Store in Lutwyche Road. The wrappers are needed for a competition which takes place in October, after which the wrappers will be made into pellets and used to make clip boards, pencil cases and picture frames. Scrappies is also collecting clean tops from plastic milk cartons as these can be sold to raise funds for equipment for the premature baby unit at the RSH and, finally, colourful ‘fruit shoot’ bottles are needed for a craft workshop at the Ludlow Green Fair in August. If you can help with any of these items the Scrappies team would be very grateful.

There is news that the store can again host birthday parties and craft clubs, and a meeting at 7pm on Wednesday can provide more information and allow you to offer any ideas you may have about the craft club. FOLK DANCING - Ticklerton village hall is the venue for an evening of folk dancing on June 15, from 8pm. No experience necessary as Dot and Ron are there to lead the way.

CONCERT - A concert at Concord College in aid of Pazappa - Haiti has been arranged through Strettons UNA for June 15 at 7.30pm. The programme will feature The More Singers, together with Pheobe Rees on viola, Richard Walker on piano and the Mynd Wood Trio, presenting some popular classics, favourite light music, opera choruses and madrigals. Holiday Club - St Laurence’s Church will be offering a holiday club for four to 11 year olds on July 24 and 25 from 10am-3pm and July 26 from 10am-1pm at the parish centre providing creative activities. Cost is £5 for three days.
