COUNTRY MARKET - Open for business is the country market held at Mayfair community centre from 9.15am-11.45am tomorrow (Friday) selling cakes, produce and craft items.

STORY TIME - Holiday story time at the library will be for primary school children and their younger brothers and sisters to take along their teddies for a teddy bears’ picnic-themed story time from 10.30am-11am tomorrow (Friday).

DOG SHOW - On Saturday Little Stretton village dog show will take place from 12 noon. The show will feature pedigree and fun classes and also a best in show. During the afternoon there will be a demonstration by Guide Dogs for the Blind, and there will be stalls and tombola, with tea, coffee and food also available. To find out more ring 01694 720132.

TICKLERTON FETE - A traditional village fete is planned for Saturday at The Orchards in Ticklerton, with parking available at the village hall.

The fete opens at 2.30pm and there will be stalls selling cakes, bric-a-brac, books, DVDs and CDs, plants and toys, and also tombola, a bottle stall, a bran tub and raffle. Face painting and games for children will be available and there will be a tank show. A barbecue will be cooking locally sourced sausages and burgers and The Stretton Strummers will be on hand to provide some musical entertainment.

CONCERT - A concert in St Laurence’s Church on Sunday at 3pm will feature Canto, Shropshire’s newest choral group, with Music for a Summer Afternoon, presenting a programme of sacred and secular music. There is no admission charge but a retiring collection will be taken.

GREEN PARTY - The Green Party meets at the Acorn Cafe in Sandford Avenue at 10.30am on Monday for the regular monthly meeting, followed by the monthly evening meeting at 7.30pm at the Feathers Hotel in Ludlow on Tuesday.

SKATE PARK - The skate park group is in need of support to provide facilities for the youngsters of the town and invites everyone to help by purchasing the wrist-bands which cost just £1 although any donations are welcome.

COMMUNITY CINEMA - Presents The Sapphires (PG) at Church Stretton school on Monday. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Admission is £4 for adults and £2 for students.

WALKING FESTIVAL - The start of the 11th Church Stretton walking festival will take place from Thursday, June 6 until June 9 offering walks to suit all abilities from six miles to 14 miles, and including two fun social evenings with buffet and entertainment. Ring 01694 724268 for more information.

SOCIAL - Little Stretton village hall committee holds its annual general meeting at 7.30pm on Thursday, June 6 followed by a cheese and wine social in the village hall.

PREEN MANOR GARDENS - The gardens of Preen Manor will be open to the public on Thursday, June 6 from 2pm-6pm. There will be plants on sale and admission is £5 for adults, accompanied children free of charge.

The gardens will also be the venue for a concert and garden picnic on June 8, when the Half Way House Ladies Choir will be entertaining. Gardens open at 3pm for the picnic with the concert starting at 5pm. Visitors are welcome to take their own chairs, picnics, wine and glasses. Admission for adults is £7 and £3 for the under 14s and can be purchased at the gate. If it rains the event will be held in the village hall. All proceeds will go to Church Preen Church.

JUNE FAIR - A June fair and coffee morning at the Methodist church hall on June 8, will raise funds for Mayfair and the Severn Hospice, and will be hosted by the Wives and Friends Group.

PEACE MEETING - Just a reminder that veteran peace activist, Bruce Kent, is due to speak at the Friends Meeting House in Shrewsbury at 3.30pm on June 9. This is a free admission event.

OPEN MEETING - The Stretton and Shropshire Cancer Care group will be hosting an open meeting on June 10, starting at 6.30pm with a buffet before the presentation which will be on the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at the RSH starting at 7.30pm.

OUTINGS - If a visit to David Austin Rose Garden on June 14 is of interest please enquire for seats on the coach by ringing 01694 720131 for this half day trip arranged by the gardening club. SPONSORSHIP INVITED - Teenage Cancer is the charity Elaine has opted to support when running the Shrewsbury half marathon on June 23.

PAZAPA CONCERT - Stretton’s UNA Pazapa-Haiti Community Partnership will host a concert at Concord College, Acton Burnell, on June 15 at 7.30pm.

TOM PEEL’S EVENT - Tom Peel’s annual fundraiser at Ashfield House, Walkmills, Leebotwood will take place on July 20 starting at 6pm. On the bill will be Simply Take That and Robbie T Entertainment.
