DRAMA - The local drama group The Dorrington Players will continue the three night run of the play Shut your eyes and Think of England at the Silvester Horne Institute tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday at 7.30pm.

Admission at the door is £8.

COUNTRY MARKET - The market is open at Mayfair tomorrow (Friday) morning from 9.15am-11.45am selling home produce including cakes and craft items.

BOOK LAUNCH - Tracy Swain and Hilary Jane Jones will be on hand to sign their latest book The Faerie Glen – Part 2 of the Journey from 11am-3pm at Burway Books on Saturday.

OPEN GARDENS - The gardens of 3 Scotsmansfield in Burway Road, will be open on Sunday from 2pm-5pm under the National Gardens Scheme. This area is originally the site of Edwardian Gardens.

TALK - Stuart Boreham gave his second illustrated talk at Mayfair community centre which he called Solo from the Canaries to Barbados, enthralling his audience with anecdotes about his journey. Stuart who has cerebral palsy rowed his boat single handedly to become the first person to achieve this particular voyage and so made it into the Guiness Book of Records. Everyone present was interested to know more about his exploits and whether he had any further adventures planned.

WIVES AND FRIENDS - The May meeting of the Methodist Wives and Friends was well attended for the talk by the Red Cross about stroke, heart attack and resuscitation. What to do and how to do it was ably demonstrated which instilled confidence in those who were present.

A vote of thanks was given and tea and coffee was served. The next event on the calendar is the June Fair in the Methodist hall on June 8, when the proceeds will go to Mayfair community centre and the Severn Hospice.

OPEN MEETING - The Strettons Civic Society plans an open meeting at the Silvester Horne Institute on Tuesday at 7pm. The speaker will be Glynn Barratt who is a the planning and landscape officer of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and will be explaining the current review of the management plan and discussing the impact of housing policy on the AONB which includes Church Stretton. There is no entrance charge but donations would be welcome. Refreshments will be available. The talk will then be followed by the annual general meeting of the Civic Society.

WALKING FESTIVAL - If you enjoy walking you may be interested to know that the Church Stretton Walking Festival takes place from June 6-9 and offers 14 walks of six to 14 miles to suit all abilities and includes two fun social evenings with buffet and entertainment. DAYS OUT - The gardening club is planning two outings in June. The first is on June 14 to David Austin Rose Garden, and the second is an outing to John Massey Ashwood Garden on June 26. To enquire for places on the coach please ring 01694 720131.

STORY TIME - There will be holiday story time at the library on May 31 from 10am-11am aimed at primary school children and their younger brothers, sisters and teddies, as the theme will be a Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

QUIZ NIGHT - There is a chance to get your thinking caps on for a Save the Children Quiz Night on May 31 at The Plough Inn, Wistanstow at 8.30pm.

There will be team prizes, a spot quiz and a raffle. Refreshments will be included in the £2 entry.

CONCERT - Canto will be in concert at St Laurence’s Church on June 2 at 3pm.
