SUPER SOUP - Super soup and puddings will be served at the parish centre on tomorrow (Friday). Tickets cost £5 and proceeds will go to Christian Aid.

TALK - Stuart Boreham gives his second talk at Mayfair tomorrow (Friday). This follows on from Uphill All the Way and is called Solo from the Canaries to Barnbados.

Despite suffering from cerebral palsy Stuart has single-handedly sailed around the world and will be talking about his adventures on the way.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Admission is £3.50 to include tea and coffee.

FRIDAY NIGHTS - Friday night at the Horne takes place tomorrow (Friday) with Lori Campbell and Little Rhumba entertaining with eastern European tangos, songs and swing. Admission is £10 at the door.

PLANT SALE - A plant sale has been arranged by the Lib-Dems and will take place at St Milburga’s car park from 10am on Saturday, billed as home grown quality and variety at bargain prices.

COFFEE CONCERT - Music by Schubert will be presented at the coffee concert in the Methodist Church by Catherine Benson (soprano) Gay Walker (horn), Richard Walker and Barrie McKay (piano duo) at the Methodist Church on Saturday at 10.15am. Free admission with a retiring collection.

DUCK RACE - The annual duck race will be held at Carding Mill Valley on Saturday from 11am-4pm and will raise funds for the local climate care group.

BRIDGE DRIVE - An inaugural bridge drive will take place at Church Stretton school on Saturday from 2pm-7pm with proceeds going to Mayfair.

BREAST CANCER - A one woman show presented by Yvette Cowles called Sequins on my Balcony will be held at the Priory school, Shrewsbury on Saturday at 7.30pm to raise funds for Breast Cancer Charities. Admission is £10.

QUIZ NIGHT - A quiz night is planned for Saturday at Mayfair with Ken Willis as question master. Teams of four to six are invited and the event starts at 7.30pm.

FOLK DANCE - The monthly folk dance at Ticklerton village hall will take place on Saturday from 8pm till late.

FLOWER CLUB - There will be a meeting of the Flower Club at All Stretton village hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday with demonstrations of flower arranging and a sales table. Visitors always welcome.

DRAMA - Dorrington Players Drama Group presents its spring production at the Silvester Horne Institute for a three night run from May 23-25 at 7.30pm.

The play will be Shut Your Eyes and Think of England, a farce directed by Brian Jones and Jim Rossell. Ticket sales are through Burway Books and John Thomas and cost £7, half price for U/16’s, or £8 on the door.

SCHOOL NEWS - At Church Stretton School the U/16’s girls rugby team is to play at Twickenham and St Lawrence’s Primary School tag rugby A team has progressed to the regional finals to qualify for the Midlands final.

Year fives have visited Bryntysilio for an outdoor experience, and the Quiz Club takes part in the finals at Oxford.

There will be visits to Attingham and the Secret Hills for other classes and year eights at will be visiting Blists Hill.

The Friends of St Lawrence’s would like to thank all of the local businesses which kindly donated raffle prizes for the Easter fun day, and to thank everyone who donated items to the Bag2School collection which raised £120 for school funds.

The lucky numbers in the April draw in the PTA 200 Club at Church Stretton School were 57, 6 and 163 winning £20, £10 and £5 respectively.

LEISURE CENTRE - Church Stretton leisure centre which offers use of the fitness suite, various exercise classes and swimming pool, also has clubs for badminton, table tennis and martial arts as well as use of tennis courts.

The leisure centre has attracted around 300 members and has sports wheelchairs available for the disabled.

LUCKY NUMBERS - The lucky numbers in the Mayfair lottery for April were 289, 429, 272 and 327, winning £100, £50, £20 and £10 respectively.

BLACKPOOL HOLIDAY - The annual holiday in Blackpool organised by the Rotary Club will be from August 1-8.

PUBLIC MEETING - The spring public meeting and annual general meeting of the Strettons Civic Society will take place at the Silvester Horne Institute on May 28.

There will be an illustrated talk on the history and development of the Shropshire Hills AONB by Glynn Barratt , AONB planning and landscape officer, at 7pm followed by the annual general meeting of the Civic Society at 8.15pm.

INTERFAITH FORUM - The South Shropshire Interfaith Forum round table discussion which was billed in Focus as taking place on May 9, will now take place on Thursday, May 23 at 12 noon. It will be held at the Pilgrim Centre in Craven Arms and the focus of the one hour long discussion will be ‘should faiths do mission in a multifaith society?’ Non-members always welcome, take your lunch box sandwiches if you wish.
