COUNTRY MARKET - The country market will be open for business at Mayfair community centre from 9.15am- 11.45am tomorrow (Friday) selling cakes, produce and crafts. Anyone who would like to join the team should enquire at the market.

BOOK SALE - A bumper sale of books, CDs and DVDs will take place at the Silvester Horne Institute on Saturday from 10am-4pm. Admission is 50p and no charge for children. All proceeds will go to Mayfair community centre.

MUSIC - Une Soiree Musicale offering French choral music by Faure and Gounot will be presented by Stretton Choral Society at Church Stretton school on Saturday at 7.30pm. Admission is £10.

CYCLE EVENT - The Longmynd Batch Burner cycle event takes place on Saturday in support of Norbury Primary School. During the day there will be a barbecue bar and music, and all information is available from Plush Hill Cycles in the Square.

PITSTOP - Games, crafts, songs and a meal are all part of the Pitstop programme held at the parish centre from 3pm-5pm on Sunday. Look out for future sessions which are arranged by St Laurence’s Church.

LOCAL HISTORY - The Church Stretton area local history group is planning a visit to Much Wenlock on Monday for a tour of the new museum.

CANCER CARE - Church Stretton and Shropshire Cancer Care Group meet at Mayfair community centre on Monday at 2.30pm and will hear a talk by Cheryl Muller and Esther Cox about the Severn Hospice clinical nurse specialists. Both are locally based hospice clinical nurse specialists and they will be speaking about their role and the referral criteria and process which gives patients and carers access to the services and support of the Severn Hospice.

The Cancer Care Group offers support and advice to those affected by cancer whether as a patient, relative or friend, and can be contacted by ringing 01694 723427 or 722123, or call in at one of the Mayfair meetings.

If you would like to support a fundraising event for breast cancer charities Sequins on my Balcony will be presented by Yvette Cowles at the Priory School in Shrewsbury from 7.30pm-10.30pm on May 18. Tickets for this one woman show about breasts, belly dance and beating the odds cost £10. Enquiries can be made by ringing 01694 724053.

COMMUNITY CINEMA - Church Stretton School will be showing Beasts of the Southern Wild (12A) on Monday. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Admission is £4, £2 for those in full time education. Interval refreshments are also available.

RHYMETIME - Rhymetime at the library is a session for the under threes and features songs, puppets and stories.

10.30am-11am on Tuesday and is a regular Monday event. From 11am- 12noon there is a Time to Listen which is a book time session for adults.

TUESDAY CLUB - The Tuesday Club meets at the URC Hall every Tuesday from 10am-3pm to provide a get together for senior citizens. During the day there are activities and entertainment, and also offers a chance to chat to others. A hot lunch is available and transport to and from the venue can be arranged. WIVES AND FRIENDS - Methodist Wives and Friends Group will be meeting at 7.30pm on Tuesday for a talk and demonstration by the Red Cross on the subject of stroke, heart attack and resuscitation. Meetings are open to anyone interested in hearing about the subject as visitors are always welcome at the meetings which takes place in the Methodist Church hall.

RNLI - Colin Williams is the regional operations manager for the RNLI and will be talking about his role at a meeting in the URC Hall at 3pm on Thursday, May 16. All are welcome, there is no charge to attend.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH - There will be a meeting of the Neighbourhood Watch at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 16 in rooms 1 and 2 at the parish centre.

TALK - Stuart Boreham’s second talk about sailing around the world will be on May 17 at Mayfair community centre.

Stuart suffers from cerebral palsy and called his talk ‘Uphill all the way’. He now talks about ‘solo from the Canaries to Barbados’. Admission is £3.50 including tea and coffee and doors open at 7pm for the talk at 7.30pm.

FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE HORNE - Eastern European tangos, songs and swing will all be part of Lori Campbell’s Little Rumba which will be featured at the Silvester Horne Institute on May 17 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are on sale through Burway Books, John Thomas, florist and the town council offices and cost £9, or £10 at the door.

APRIL TOTE - Winners in the April tote in aid of Rushbury village hall were Bill Reynolds and Kath Meddlicott who each won £5, Derek Smith and Mrs S Lucas- Garner who each won £10 and S and Riley who scooped the £40 prize.

PLANT SALE, COFFEE MORNING AND MORE - May 18 will see a plant sale at St Milburga’s car park from 10am, a coffee concert at the Methodist Church at 10.15am, a duck race in Cardingmill Valley from 11am-4pm, a bridge drive at Church Stretton School from 2pm-7pm, a quiz at Mayfair at 7.30pm and a folk dance at Ticklerton village hall from 8pm.
