COUNTRY MARKET - The Friday market held at Mayfair is up and running again after the winter break and is open tomorrow (Friday) from 9.15am-11.45am selling cakes and pastries, jams and marmalades, craft items and garden produce in season.

LUNCH - The Save the Children fund organising committee is hosting a bangers and mash lunch on tomorrow (Friday) at the parish centre from 12 noon - 1.30pm. Sausages from Wenlock Edge Farm.

COFFEE CONCERT - On Saturday morning there will be a coffee concert in the Methodist church from 10.15am when easy listening classical music will be played. All welcome.

QUIZ NIGHT - A quiz night at Mayfair on Saturday has Ken Willis as question master and will start at 7.30pm with all proceeds going to Mayfair community centre.

PENTABUS - For Once by Tim Price will be staged at All Stretton village hall tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm. This is a Pentabus production and ticket reservations should be made by ringing 01694 723378.

RAFFLE - The draw in the raffle of an Easter egg for Mayfair will be made on Monday so if you would like to take part please buy your tickets this weekend.

LOCAL HISTORY - The next meeting of the Local History group will be on Monday at 2.30pm in the URC hall when Phil Scoggins from the Shropshire Museum Services will be giving a talk about Shrewsbury’s New Museum at the Music Hall - the story so far.

BIRDS - The Shropshire Ornithological Society meeting at the Methodist hall on Monday will start at 7.30pm. On this occasion Brayton Holt will be presenting an illustrated talk on South American Way. Admission for visitors is £2 including refreshments and all are welcome.

GARDENING CLUB - The Church Stretton Gardening Club meets at the Silvester Horne Institute on Tuesday to hear Sue Russell‘s talk titled Old Fashioned Roses. Doors open at 7pm for coffee and tea before the talk at 7.30pm. Visitors always welcome, admission is £2.

FLOWER CLUB - The Flower Club meeting is on Tuesday in All Stretton village hall at 7.30pm. Floral Fun will be the theme of Margaret Evans’ demonstration. Visitors welcome.

FLICKS IN THE STICKS - Presents Sightseers (15) at Acton Scott village hall on Tuesday. The next film to be screened at Church Stretton school will be Anna Karenina (12A) on April 8. All films start at 7.30pm and serve interval refreshments. Admission is £4 or £2 for those in full-time education.

TREE GROUP - The Tree Group is hosting a talk by Sue Cooper on Caring for God’s Acre at 7.30pm in the Methodist hall on Wednesday.

Admission for non-members is £3. The talk will touch on the management of churchyards for wildlife and conservation of walls, trees, flowers and meadows.

SCHOOL NEWS - On the run up to end of term there have been swimming gala and tag rugby competitions for pupils at St Lawrence’s primary school and also a visit to Blists Hill Victorian Museum site. Church Stretton school has also held a non-uniform day for comic relief. At the recent head’s afternoon tea the winning numbers in the PTA’s 200 club were 161, 6 and 12 in February and 58, 142 and 99 in March. There are thanks to the PTA for the microphone provided for assemblies and the bicycle shelter which will also be funded.

ARK COFFEE MORNING - Last weekend there was a coffee morning arranged by Churches Together to support the ARK in Shrewsbury.

Visitors were invited to take along contributions of tinned goods which would be shared with the Shrewsbury Food Bank. There were stalls selling cakes, bric-a-brac and Traidcraft goods together with lucky dip and a raffle.

Donations were welcomed for the refreshments served. A speaker from the ARK which is run mainly by volunteers told those present that the ARK is there to help not only the homeless but anyone who is going through a difficult patch and told of the various ways help could be given.

He thanked everyone for their donations of food items and also for the items of bedding which had also been brought in. The event was very well supported and raised over £650.

LITERARY SOCIETY - The theme of a talk for the Literary Society meeting on Monday is Bleak House - Dickens and the Law and will be given by George Baugh, secretary of the Shropshire Historical and Archaeological Society.

The meetings are held at the library at 7.30pm. Please use the back door entrance. Refreshments will be served and visitors are always welcome.

SERVICES - Churches Together will holds a Good Friday service on March 29 at 10.30pm in the Methodist church followed by a procession of witness at 11.30am from the station car park.

OLIVET TO CALVARY - The choir of St Andrew’s church in Hope Bowdler will be singing Olivet to Calvary in St Andrew’s church at 7.30pm on Good Friday.

BOOK SALE - Scrappies children’s scrap store is holding a book sale on March 30 from 10am-4pm. At the same time Scrappies can take in buttons, cotton reels and clean plastic carrier bags if you have any you can donate.

OPEN GARDENS - The gardens at Preen Manor will be open on Easter Monday from 2pm-5pm under the National Garden Scheme. Admission for adults is £5 and 50p for accompanied children. There will be plants for sale.

HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS - Scrappies will be running two holiday workshops during the school Easter break on April 4 and 11 led by Lesley McKnight. The morning sessions run from 10.30am- 12.30pm and are for the five’s to ten’s.

During the afternoons from 1.30- 3.30pm the sessions are for children over 11 years of age. Each session costs £4 which must be pre-booked and prepaid beforehand. Ring 01694 722511 to enquire for places or for more information.
