EASTER BINGO - An Easter bingo arranged by the Friends of Rushbury School will be in the village hall on Saturday. Doors open at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.

CHOIR - The mixed choir Of One Accord will be in chorus at Church Stretton school on Saturday night raising funds for the Royal British Legion. Musical Director is Alison E Stevens. Admission is £5.

PASSIONTIDE - Music for Passiontide and St Patrick will be presented by the More Singers at the URC on Saturday at 7.30pm. Free admission with a retiring collection.

QUIZ NIGHT - The Longmynd Adventure Camp committee is hosting a quiz night at the district social club on Saturday starting at 7.45pm and with Ken Willis as question master.

Entry fee is £5, which includes a sausage and chip supper.

FOLK DANCE - An evening of folk dancing will be on at Ticklerton village hall on Saturday night starting at 8pm.

RUSHBURY TOTE - Winners in the February tote in aid of Rushbury village hall funds were Mrs M Bright and Mrs C Beaver who each won £5, Mrs C Hotchkiss and Mr M Carter who each won £10 and Miss E Bebbington who scooped the £40 prize.

BEDDING APPEAL - The local RSPCA centre is appealing for bedding items for the animals such as old blankets, duvets and towels. Please take any items you have along to the centre if you are able to do so, otherwise ring 01694 722896 to arrange for a collection.

RED NOSE DAY - Cakes have been on sale at Burway Books since February 15 to raise money for Red Nose Day helping to make a difference to other people’s lives. The shop is also supporting the recently launched Care Card Scheme which offers a discount on most items in stock to carers who have registered with the Shropshire RCC’s Carer Support Service, so take your card with you when you visit to make a purchase. Other loyalty incentives are also available.

SCHOOL NEWS - At St Lawrence’s pupils have taken part in Wenlock Live Arts Festival and will also be attending the south Shropshire Swimming Gala.

A special ‘dressing up day’ will mark students in years seven and eight taking part in a short story writing competition last half term. The winning entries were read out in a special assembly and certificates were presented by local author Martin Roach. A non-uniform day celebrated World Book Day. There have been successes on the rugby and football pitches .The bronze DofE students have taken part in a youth hostel walk.

The charity sale of roses for Valentine’s Day raised £100 for the Severn Hospice in Telford where teacher Mrs Lin Halfpenny was looked after.

COMEDY NIGHT - Monday is comedy night at Housman’s. Tickets cost £12 and include chicken and chips in a box.

CAMERA CLUB - At the meeting of The Longmynd Camera Club on Wednesday there will be a short picture show on This and That. This is President’s Evening at the URC hall starting at 7.30pm and visitors are always welcome The previous meeting on March 6 was competition night and was number four in the series. The subject was open and the print section was a print panel which allowed each entry to link three photographs together within a common theme. Norman Axtell ‘s Haunted Ruins pictures took third place, in second place was David Wraith’s presentation of Elements of Venice in black and white, and in first place was David Kennedy’s set of monochrome pictures of Bull Ring at Ronda in Andalucia.

The digitally projected images in the open category saw Tony Martyr‘s monochrome images of Storm brewing over Calanish Stones on the Isle of Lewes in third place. In second place was Norman Axtell’s entry of Battle of the Sands which depicted car racing on the beach, and in first place was David Kennedy’s monochrome images of Cast Iron Figures by Antony Gormley on the beach at Crosby, Merseyside.

SUSTAINABILITY - Dr Tina Holt will be giving a talk and offering energy saving advice at a meeting in the Methodist church on Wednesday at 7.30pm. Dr Holt is a sustainability consultant and has called her talk Homes Behaving Badly. The event has been arranged by Stretton Climate Care.

WILDLIFE - Find out about the fight to protect Shropshire’s stunning wildlife at a meeting in the Methodist church hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm.The meeting will be led by Fiona Gomersall, and will feature the conservation of species, habitats and landscapes. All are welcome.

CONSERVATION - A drop-in information evening at the Silvester Horne Institute has been arranged by Shropshire council to offer information on the proposed extension of the Church Stretton Conservation Area.

LUNCH - A Save the Children lunch will be held at the parish centre from 12 noon -1.30pm on March 22. On the menu will be bangers and mash with tea and coffee for £5.

SMALLHOLDERS - The Shropshire Smallholders group met at Leebotwood village hall on StValentine’s night to hear a talk on growing vegetables by Simon Spencer.

In his talk Simon focused on the ‘hunger gap’ between January and June when producing home grown vegetables needs particularly careful planning and selection of varieties.

There was also time for members to sell their smallholder produce and to swap seeds as well as exchange notices about items for sale or wanted.

COFFEE CONCERT - With easy listening classical music will take place at 10.15am in the Methodist church on March 22.

MAYFAIR - Ken Willis will be question master at a quiz night in Mayfair community centre at 7.30pm on March 23. Tickets for a special Easter egg raffle are available at Mayfair with the draw taking place on March 25.
