AT THE HORNE - Tomorrow (Friday) at the Silvester Horne Institute will see the legendary Dave Swarbrick entertaining with fiddle playing of English folk music. Tickets cost £8 or pay £9 on the door.

COFFEE MORNING - Churches together in the Strettons are hosting a coffee morning on Saturday for the Shrewsbury Ark. The event will take place at the URC hall from 10am-12 noon when there will be stalls selling cakes, bric-a-brac and Traidcraft goods, together with a raffle. Everyone is invited to take along a tin of soup or fruit as a donation to the Shrewsbury Ark.

BOOK GIVE-AWAY - Books, CDs and DVDs together with records and jigsaw puzzles will all be available for free at the parish centre from 11am-3.30pm on Saturday. Admission for adults is £3 and £1.50 for children including refreshments. Proceeds of the day will go to Rose Cottage Cat Rescue.

QUIZ NIGHT - A quiz night at the District Social Club will raise funds for the Royal British Legion local committee on Saturday starting at 7.45pm with Ken Willis as question master. Entry fee is £3. There is also a quiz night at All Stretton village hall on Saturday at 7.30pm when you are invited to take your own refreshments.

PITSTOP - St Laurence’s holds a pitstop event with Mother’s Day themed games, crafts and activities from 3pm- 5pm on Sunday with a meal as usual for those who have booked in.

CANCER CARE - Stretton and Shropshire Cancer Care Group meets at Mayfair on Monday at 2.30pm to hear Joe Collins giving a talk under the heading ‘change your mind’ a very brief introduction to mindfulness.

WIVES AND FRIENDS - Methodist wives and friends welcome visitors to the meeting on Tuesday at 7.30pm when Lesley Richards will be giving a talk about The Story of the Quaker Tapestry.

COMMUNITY CINEMA - Local films showing; at Hope Bowdler village hall, Wednesday Anna Karenina (12A); at All Stretton village hall on March 15 Ginger and Rosa (12A). Films start at 7.30pm and serve interval refreshments.

SCHOOL NEWS - At Church Stretton school the recent annual general meeting of the PTA was held and welcomed new members. The PTA was thanked for the provision of books, equipment for the D of E group and for providing prizes for the head’s afternoon tea events.

It was also much appreciated that the PTA served refreshments at school events and the community games.

Speakers from the Shropshire Housing Association were present and gave a talk about housing and health and offered training courses on internet safety.

At St Lawrence’s primary school there was to be a presentation of money to buy a Shelterbox for the charity which provides emergency supplies to disaster areas.

SHROPSHIRE SMALLHOLDERS - For the next meeting of the group on Thursday, March 14 the members will be testing their skill at identifying old farming equipment at a quiz evening.

COUNTRY MARKET - The country market held each Friday morning at Mayfair will re-open after the winter break on March 15 and will sell cakes and pastries, jams and marmalade, cards, and plants and vegetables as available. The market opens at 9.15am until 11.45am. There is an invitation for more suppliers to join.

SSIF - The South Shropshire Interfaith Forum will be hosting a round table discussion on Thursday, March 14 at the Pilgrim centre in Craven Arms (SY7 9NY). The subject for discussion will be The Hajj and Sacred Journeys, introduced by Sohayb Peerbai.

Meet at 12 noon for the talk from 12.15pm until 1.15pm. Pop in to air your views and take your sandwiches if you wish. All welcome.

The SSIF held a commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day in January attended by Jewish, Muslim and Christian members. The theme of the event was Communities Together: building a bridge.

FASHION BY VIYELLA - This event will take place at All Stretton village hall on Thursday, March 14 at 7.30pm.

ACTON SCOTT - The Acton Scott Gardening Club will meet on Thursday, March 14 at 7.30pm in the village hall.

Kim Hurst of the Cottage Herbery will speak about Tasty Buds, Luscious Leaves and Succulent Shoots. There will also be plants for sale. All welcome. Admission is £2.50 including refreshments.

Exhibitions - An exhibition of photographs of the Shropshire Hills by Robin Jukes-Hughes is being held in the Chapel Bar and Manby Bowdler Gallery of Theatre Severn. Adigital exhibition of his images of Shrewsbury is being held in the Old Market Hall Café in The Square, both exhibitions run up until March 16.

RSPCA APPEAL - The local RSPCA is in need of old bedding items such as blankets and towels for animal use.

CHOIR - The Choir Of One Accord will be in chorus at Church Stretton school on March 16 at 7.30pm with musical director Alison E Stevens Bed ALCM.

MUSIC FOR PASSIONTIDE - A programme of Music for Passiontide and St Patrick will be presented by The More Singers at the URC on March 16, at 7.30pm.

BINGO - The Friends of Rushbury School are holding an Easter Bingo on March 16 in Rushbury village hall.

Doors open at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.
