DAY OF PRAYER - The Women’s World day of Prayer service will be at 10.30am at St Milburga’s church (tomorrow) Friday. The speaker will be Lesley Richards and the subject Praying for France.

HOUSING DESIGN - Tomorrow (Friday) there will be a chance to look at the design for extra housing ideas for Ley Gardens at an exhibition and information event at the Silvester Horne Institute from 5.30pm-7.30pm.

COFFEE MORNING - A coffee morning at the district social club on Saturday will raise funds for breast cancer and haematology at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital from 10am-12 noon.

SING-ALONG - Will be held in St Laurence’s church on Saturday morning with the popular Shropshire Strummers raising funds for the Pazapa-Haiti school and medical centre. Coffee will be served at 10.30am followed by the music at 11am. All welcome to this free event with retiring collection.

BOOK SIGNING - Best selling author, Kate Long will be at Burway Books from 11am-2pm for a book signing on Saturday.

FISH AND CHIPS - The local RNLI Committee will be hosting a fish and chip supper event at the Silvester Horne Institute on Saturday from 7.15pm. During the evening there will be a talk by Sharla Greenway on A Lady at Sea. Tickets are selling through John Thomas Florists and cost £8 or ring 01694 724371 to enquire for places.

CHOIR - Much Wenlock Male Voice Choir will be in chorus at Church Stretton school on Saturday at 7.30pm.

Admission is £6 including light refreshment and proceeds will go to local rotary club funds.

PRIZE BINGO - Church Stretton Magpies football club will be hosting a prize bingo at the district social club on Saturday night raising funds for the U/14 girls football. Doors open at 7pm and eyes down at 8pm.

APPLE TREE GRAFTING - A workshop at Karuna, on Sunday will be about apple tree grafting from 10.30am-4pm.

The £37 fee will include a lunch of soup and bread and also drinks, and two apple trees will be available to take home.

GREEN PARTY - The next meeting of the Green Party will be at the Acorn Café at 10.30am on Monday and there will also be a meeting at 7.30pm on Tuesday at The Feathers in Ludlow.

COMMUNITY CINEMA - Presents Untouchable (15) on Monday at Church Stretton school and The Impostor (15) on Tuesday at Acton Scott village hall. Both films are part of the Borderlines Film festival and start at 7.30pm with interval refreshments.

Admission for adults is £4.

GRASSSROOTS - The Grassroots Theatre Company is looking for amateur actors, technicians, stage assistants and anyone with a love of theatre to get in touch by ringing 01694 720132 or 771468.

COFFEE MORNING - A craft and coffee morning will take place at Ley Gardens on Tuesday from 10.30am - 12 noon with stalls, raffle and a craft workshop.

The event has been arranged by Cancer Research local committee.

CLIMATE WEEK - Information will be available at the Co-op from 10am-3pm on Wednesday and Thursday, March 7 for climate week.

CAMERA CLUB - The Longmynd Camera Club will be holding its fourth competition of the season on Wednesday at the URC hall from 7.30pm. The subject of the competition will be open and include prints and projected images. The judge will be John Swannick ARPS. Visitors are always welcome.

FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE HORNE - March 8 will see Dave Swarbrick, an English folk musician and fiddle player at the Silvester Horne Institute at 7.30pm. Ticket sales through John Thomas Florists, Burway Books and the town council offices.

SHREWSBURY ARK - A coffee morning at the URC hall on March 9, has been arranged by Churches Together in the Strettons and will raise funds for the Shrewsbury Ark with the sale of cakes, bric-a-brac, a raffle and a Traidcraft stall. A tin of soup or fruit may be taken along as a donation to the Ark.

BOOK GIVE AWAY - A great book giveaway will be held at the parish centre from 11am-3.30pm on March 9, with hundreds of books, CDs and DVDs, and jigsaw puzzles all free for the taking. Admission for adults is £3 and £1.50 for children which also includes refreshments. Proceeds of the event will go to Rose Cottage Cat Rescue.

TABLE TOP SALE - Leebotwood village hall will be open for table top sale on March 9, from 10am-1pm. To book a place at the sale ring 01694 722970.

Proceeds will go to the local church.

QUIZ NIGHT - A quiz night at the district social club on March 9 will be hosted by the local Royal British Legion committee. Ken Willis will be the question master and entry is £3. The event starts at 7.45pm.

COUNTRY MARKET - At the AGM of the country market which is held on Friday mornings at Mayfair it was decided that after the winter break the market would re-open on March 15. It is 30 years since the market first started as a WI market and is now under the chairmanship of Pauline Jones, with Judy Gibson as secretary, Ethel Price and Pauline Jones sharing the treasurer’s role, and Terry Drury as the market manager. The market would welcome additional suppliers.
