IRISH MUSIC - There will be an evening of traditional Irish Music tomorrow (Friday) at the Yew Tree Inn, All Stretton from 8pm-11pm.

PANTOMIME - All Stretton pantomime Rumpelstiltskin continues to be staged at All Stretton village hall on Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm.

Admission is £4 for adults and £2.50 for children.

COLLECTION - This weekend, (Friday and Saturday) a collection for the Marie Curie Fund will be taking place in the foyer of the Co-op.

RNLI - The Shropshire Strummers will be entertaining at a Sing Our Songs evening at the District Social Club on Saturday at 7.30pm raising funds for the local RNLI committee. Admission is £5 including refreshments.

VALENTINE DISCO - A St Valentine’s disco will be held at the Silvester Horne Institute on Saturday from 8pm with proceeds going to MacMillan Cancer Support. Ticket sales are through Newsworld.

FOLK DANCE - There will be folk dancing at Ticklerton village hall on Saturday night from 8pm when all are welcome. No experience is necessary as Ron and Dot Cox will be on hand to show the way. Ring 01694-722418 if you would like to know more as these folk dance evenings are held regularly.

GARAGE PRAISE - At 7pm on Saturday Garage Praise will be held at Burway Garage in Crossways with songs of praise and a few words from a speaker.

COMMUNITY CINEMA - Presents Mao’s Last Dancer (PG) at Acton Scott village hall on Tuesday starting at 7.30pm.

CAMERA CLUB - At the meeting of Longmynd Camera Club earlier in the month, members and visitors were treated to a presentation by Jim Almond on his visit to New England.

The club will be meeting again on Wednesday at 7.30pm in the URC hall for a practical evening under the heading Discovering Digital when there will be a chance to share experiences and problems on various topics. Visitors are always welcome at any of the meetings.

SCHOOL NEWS - St Lawrence’s Primary School pupils have won their way through the local athletics competition to compete in the south Shropshire regional final finishing in first place ahead of five other schools and now go forward to the winter games where they will be taking part in the quick sticks hockey, tag rugby and sports hall athletics competition at RAF Shawbury. Still with sport, the under nine boys football team are to play in the county cup competition. 32 year six pupils have taken part in the bikeabiity course and have received their certificates. The four boys in the quiz team are entered in the first round of the general knowledge quiz held at Shrewsbury. All of the pupils are invited to enter the Easter picture competition arranged by the Friends of the School with one of the pictures selected for the poster advertising the Easter fun day on March 23.

At Church Stretton School RE for All included a Holocaust Memorial theme with invited speaker Ruth Barnet.

SMALLHOLDERS - The Shropshire Smallholders annual general meeting in January was well attended and a new chair and secretary were elected with the current treasurer and committee remaining in post but there is always an invitation to anyone else who would like to be part of the committee. Two members stepped down from the committee and each received a gift in appreciation of their work. There was news that their stand at the Minsterley Show had been awarded second prize in the best trade stand category. After the business of the meeting was completed four of the members entertained everyone with stories and anecdotes about life on their smallholdings and the evening was rounded off with a bring and share supper.

RUSHBURY NEWS - Winners in the January Tote in aid of Rushbury village hall Funds were Pat Stoke-Smith and Peter Tipton each winning £5, John Lomas and Luke Owen who each won £10, and Ann Price who scooped the £40 prize. Short mat bowling is available at the village hall on Tuesday afternoons from 2pm and on Thursday evenings from 7.30pm.

TICKLERTON - On February 22 Ian and Hilary Templeton will be giving an audio visual presentation at the village hall at 7.30pm. The presentation will be The Heart of Europe and will look at Germany, Austria and Italy. Admission is £6.50 or £3.50 for those of school age and includes themed refreshments. Ring 01694 724078 if you would like to know more. This event raises funds for St Edith’s Church, and there will be a contribution to the Midlands Air Ambulance. Ian and Hilary have been supporting the Midlands Air Ambulance for some time by giving presentations and have raised in the region of £13,000 in so doing.
