COUNTRY MARKET - at Mayfair tomorrow (Friday) open from 9.15- 11.45am selling homemade produce and cakes. The last market before Christmas will be on December 21.

MEET - Lee Chapman, councillor for Church Stretton and Craven Arms will be in attendance at a surgery taking place at Mayfair from 10am-noon tomorrow (Friday).

RAILWAY SOCIETY - Open day at the Silvester Horne Institute from 10am- 3pm on Saturday with working models on display. Admission is free.

CONCERT - The More Singers will be in concert at the Methodist Church at 7.30pm on Saturday. Free admission with a retiring collection for Mayfair.

CAROLS - and mulled wine at 7.30pm at the Chalet Pavilion, Carding Mill Valley on Saturday with speaker Stephen Dirges of Bridgnorth. This is a St Laurence’s Church event.

FOLK DANCING - at Ticklerton village hall on Saturday with Ron and Dot Cox leading the way from 8pm-late.

NATIVITY SERVICE - at St Laurence’s Church at 11.05am and a carol service at All Saints Church Little Stretton at 3pm on Sunday. Quakers meet at the SHI at 10.30am.

GROTTO GAMES - The Church Stretton leisure centre will be providing a variety of games, crafts and fun activities for youngsters aged 3-12 on Monday from 4-6pm. Accompanied children only and places must be pre-booked.

CIVIC SOCIETY - The Strettons Civic Society is holding an open meeting at the Silvester Horne Institute on Monday at 7pm when Mr Stephen Backhouse, head of HF’s holiday operations, will speak about HF and the future of The Longmynd Hotel.

Refreshments will be served.

Admission is free, but donations would be welcome.

QUIZ NIGHT - Rose Cottage Cat Rescue is hosting a quiz night at the District Social Club on Monday starting at 7.45pm. Entry fee to the quiz is £3 per person.

LIBRARY EVENTS - On Tuesday a festive rhyme time for the under threes will take place from 10.30-11am and there will also be a festive coffee morning from 10.30am-noon and a festive tea afternoon from 2.30-4pm on the same day to celebrate the festive season with the library staff.

COMMUNITY CINEMA - The film to be screened at Acton Scott village hall on Tuesday is The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel at 7.30pm. Admission is £4 for adults and £2 for children.

JUBILEE MUGS - A small number of Acton Scott Jubilee mugs were recently still available for sale so if you would like to enquire about these please ring Mary Jones on 01694 781260. Cost of the mugs is £10.

CAMERA CLUB - Longmynd Camera Club rounds off 2012 with a Christmas meeting on Wednesday at 7.30pm with refreshments and presentations by club members. Visitors welcome.

SMALLHOLDERS - The November meeting of Shropshire Smallholders was held at Leebotwood village hall and was well attended by regulars and some new faces all keen to find out about the whys and wherefores of electric fencing. During December the group will be getting together for a festive meal and then in January the annual general meeting will take place with a bring and share supper. There will be a chance to receive nominations for chair and secretary and plan the new programme for 2013.

SCHOOL NEWS - St Lawrence’s Primary School pupils will be performing their Christmas shows which they have been rehearsing and the singing group will be visiting various residential homes. Visits to pantomimes are also planned and there will be Christmas performances in the local church. The Friends of the School are able to supply special reindeer food to leave out for Santa’s reindeer and this will be on sale at the school. At Church Stretton School the head’s afternoon tea has celebrated the achievements of those taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, students have presented a Music at Christmas event and former students have returned to receive their certificates at a presentation evening when Olympian Alison Williamson was the speaker.

RUSHBURY TOTE - Winners of the October Tote in aid of Rushbury village hall were Sarah Madeley and P and SJ Blackwell, winning £5, Andrea Millard and Ken Dodd winning £10 and Richard Hartley who scooped the £40 prize. The November tote saw John Griffiths and Marcus Themans each winning £5, Karen Griffiths and Laurie Paice each winning £10, and S and L Reynolds scooping the £40 prize.
