RUSHBURY FUN DAY - A Christmas family fun day is planned for Saturday at Rushbury village hall from 11am- 3pm with the Shropshire Strummers and Santa’s grotto. A bouncy castle, face painting, glitter tattooist and games will provide fun for the youngsters. There will be indoor stalls, a cake stall, tombola and a raffle as well as refreshments. CHORAL SOCIETY CONCERT - at Church Stretton School at 7.30pm on Saturday featuring Gloria Alleluia, and O Magnum Mysterium. There will be carols for choir and audience and random brass, and piano keyboards.

ALMSHOUSE BAND - at All Stretton village hall at 7.30pm on Saturday in aid of Conakry Refugee School, Guinea, West Africa. Tickets for this cost £8 and are being sold through Burway Books, or pay £9 on the door.

COUNTRY MUSIC - at the District Social Club on Sunday with Derek Kade providing music for 50s, 60s and 70s music.

MEET THE AUTHORS - Kate Long, Simon Whaley, and Diane Parker will be at Burway Books on Sunday from 1.30-5pm. Former MP Christopher Gill will also be on hand to sign his book Cracking the Whip. Photographs from the recent Persephone Tea Party with Morris Traveller will also be on display.

QUIZ NIGHT - A quiz night at the Yew Tree Inn, All Stretton, will take place on Monday at 7.30pm. Entry is £2.50 and all proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

CANCER CARE - The Stretton and Shropshire Cancer Care group and friends will be rounding off the year with a Christmas lunch at Eaton Manor on Tuesday. The group cares for people in the Strettons and Shropshire who have cancer, and their relatives and friends. The next meeting will be on January 14, when Roger Wilson will give a talk on What I Have Learned About Cancer Research at Mayfair community centre at 2.30pm.

ENGAGING ISSUES - The meeting on Tuesday at 7.30pm in the URC will offer A Glimpse of Glory by speaker Jonathan Robinson, who will give a talk entitled A Holistic Vision of the Inter-connectedness and ‘Oneness’ of All Existence. All welcome.

LATE OPENING - Shops in Church Stretton will be open later than usual on December 13 for late night shopping. At Entertaining Elephants there is a chance to meet the new owners Jo and Bob who take over on January 1. Join them for a glass of mulled wine between 5pm and 7pm.

MINCE PIES AND MERRIMENT - An evening of festive fun is planned for December 14 at Little Stretton village hall. Tickets cost £7 from the Village Stores.

OPEN DAY - Church Stretton Railway Society is holding an open day at the SHI on December 15 from 10am-5pm with working models on display.

Admission is free.

CONCERT - A concert at the Methodist Church on December 15 at 7.30pm will feature the More Singers with A Baby is Born. The musical director is Kathryn Burmingham and the organist is Dr John Godwin.

Admission is free with a retiring collection for Mayfair.

Lucky numbers - The winning numbers in the Mayfair lottery for November were 326, 192, 173 and 389 winning £100, £50, £20 and £10.

SCHOOL NEWS - At St Lawrence’s Primary School the pupils are busy rehearsing their Christmas plays and are also looking forward to theatre visits in the coming weeks. They have a chance to watch a Christmas special at Film Club. There have been donations to The Friends of the School Barrow of Bottle but there is still room for a few more. At Church Stretton School students have taken part in a public speaking workshop and entertained family and friends with music at the winter concert, the annual presentation evening will be held on December 13 when the guest speaker will be Olympic archer Alison Williamson, and the new website will be up and running next week.

GARAGE PRAISE - The Christmas ‘Garage Praise’ will be held at the Chalet Pavilion on December 15 at 7.30pm. All welcome.
