COUNTRY MARKET - at Mayfair tomorrow (Friday) from 9.15am- 11.45am selling home made cakes and pastries, produce and craft items.

CINEMA - at All Stretton village hall tomorrow (Friday) screening The Artist (12). The film to be shown at Church Stretton School on Monday is Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (12A). Films start at 7.30pm.

MUSIC NIGHT - Blues Boy Dan, a talented local boy, will play at the King’s Arms from 9pm tomorrow (Friday) and on Sunday Jim Onslow will be at the District Club providing country music in 50s, 60s and 70s style.

CHEESE, WINE AND RACE NIGHT - at the SHI tomorrow (Friday). Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets from Newsworld are £5 and include a cheese platter and glass of wine.

Proceeds go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

BAZAAR - for Stretton and Shropshire Cancer Care will be held at the Silvester Horne Institute on Saturday from 10am to noon. Many stalls, raffle and refreshments available.

AMNESTY - The group holds its Write for Rights message offer from 10am to noon on Saturday at the URC Hall.

CHRISTMAS FAIR - at Leebotwood village hall from 10am-3pm on Saturday.

WORKSHOP - Brenda Alexander will be leading a workshop on the Endeavour Scholarship Fund set up following the New Zealand earthquake disasters on Monday at 2.30pm in the Acorn Café. There will be a raffle and donations will also be welcome.

GREEN PARTY - The next meeting of the Green Party will take place on Monday morning at the Acorn Café and there is a reminder that there is a disposal point for low energy bulbs just inside the entrance.

CORNUCOPIA - The ladies’ section of the local golf club is hosting a Christmas cornucopia at the Golf Club House on Thursday December 6 from 7pm with a variety of stalls and a raffle.

Advance tickets sold through Sequel; or pay on the door. Admission is £3 and includes a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie. A licensed bar will be available.

FESTIVE MUSIC - Thursday December 6 for Christmas celebrations at All Saints Church, Little Stretton starting at 7.30pm, with a programme of festive music, carols and readings with Canto, Shropshire’s newest choir. The concert will be followed by mince pies and mulled wine at the Ragleth Inn.

TIME TO LISTEN - A time to listen is a book-time with a difference for adults and will take place at the library on Thursday December from 10.30- 11.30am under the heading Happy Holly Day. Admission is free, so just pop along.

 

SCHOOL NEWS - St Lawrence’s
Primary School pupils represented the
school in the County Cup with the U11
girls progressing to the second round.
There is a place available if any of the
pupils wish to learn to play the cello,
and there will be music pantomime
visits. There is a thank you for the 41
shoe boxes collected and for the poppy
appeal which raised £70.31. Following
the annual general meeting of the
Friends of the School, a new treasurer
was elected and it was agreed to
purchase a bird table for the infants’
play area and HiVis jackets to help
with the safety of the children on trips.

At Church Stretton School a nonuniform
pyjama day raised
approximately £900 for Children in
Need. Parents will be invited in for
another of the head’s afternoon teas
which celebrate achievements of
students in and out of school, and
students will take part in a public
speaking workshop.
CHRISTMAS MARKET - A Christmas
market at the SHI on December 8 will
offer a wide range of craft items,
tombola and refreshments from
10.30am-3pm. Admission is free and
there will be mulled wine and mince
pies too.
BURWAY BOOKS - Meet several best
selling authors including Kate Long,
Simon Whaley, Diane Parker, and
possibly Julia Williams, who will be
dropping in for a chat at Burway Books
on December 9 from 1.30-5pm when
there will also be pictures of the recent
Persephone Tea Party. Former MP for
Ludlow Christopher Gill will also be on
hand to sign copies of his book
Cracking the Whip. A festive drink and
mince pies will also be on offer. The
shop will be open on December 13,
which is the late night shopping
evening in Church Stretton.
CHORAL SOCIETY - The Choral
Society will be in concert at Church
Stretton School on December 8 at
7.30pm with Gloria Alleluia, OMagnum
Mysterium and carols for choir and
audience, together with random brass,
piano and keyboards. Tickets are being
sold through Burway Books, John
Thomas Florists and choir members
and cost £10.
BAND NIGHT - The Almshouse Band
will be in concert at All Stretton village
hall on December 8 at 7.30pm raising
funds for Conakry Refugee School in
Guinea, West Africa. Tickets cost £8
and are being sold through Burway
Books, or pay £9 at the door.
RUSHBURY FUN DAY - December 8 is
Rushbury Christmas family fun day at
Rushbury village hall from 11am-3pm
with the Shropshire Strummers. Santa
will be in his grotto, and there will be
face painting, glitter tattooist, bouncy
castle and various games together with
tombola, raffle, cake stall and other
indoor stalls. Refreshments will be

QUIZ NIGHT - A quiz night on
December 10 at the Yew Tree Inn at All
Stretton will raise funds for Macmillan
Cancer Support starting at 7.30pm.
Entry fee £2.50 per person.
CAMERA CLUB - Longmynd Camera
Club’s second competition of the
season took place on November 21
with a subject ‘Streets and Walkways’
judged by Roger Cable. In the digital
images section the first three places
were taken by Ken Robinson, Richard
Chambers and Tony Martyr
respectively, and the prints section saw
David Wraity, Dorothy Robinson and
Grahame Stovold in the first three
spots respectively. The next meeting of
the club will be on Wednesday with a
recording of the Shropshire 6 Way
Challenge at the Gateway together
with the judges’ comments.
MINCE PIES AND MERRIMENT - will
take place at Little Stretton village hall
on December 14. Tickets cost £7 and
are on sale through Keenan’s Stores or
the committee.
OPEN DAY - for the Church Stretton
Railway Society at the SHI from 10am-
3pm on December 15 with lots of
working models. Admission is free.
GARAGE PRAISE - will be held at the
Chalet Pavilion, Carding Mill Valley, on
December 15.
