CHRISTMAS FAIR – Will see festive stalls and barrel organ in the Square on Saturday from noon-6pm and a parade of penguins through the town. LJQ Jazz band will be playing from 2.30pm- 4.30pm. From 1.30pm-3.30pm Santa’s Grotto is open and pudding tasting at Mayfair. At 4pm the Christingle Service will be at St Laurence’s Church and at 5pm the lights will be switched on and carols will be sung around the tree.

ROSE COTTAGE – Cat Rescue holds its Christmas Fair at the parish centre on Saturday from 10.30am-12.30pm with cakes, Christmas cards, gifts, books, toys, bric-a-brac, raffle and tombola, plus coffee and mince pies. Free entry.

BOOK LAUNCH – Burway Books from 11am-3pm on Saturday for Shirelands book of photographs and poetry by Tracey Swain and Hilary Jane Jones. A special gift with the first 12 purchases and a celebratory drink for all.

ART EXHIBITION – All Stretton village hall on Sunday from 10.30am-4.30pm with donations for refreshments going to Hope House Children’s Hospice.

LOCAL HISTORY – A talk by Guy Sjogren on the Rise and Decline of the Birmingham Cut Nail Trade at the URC Hall at 2.30pm on Monday.

LITERARY SOCIETY – Local author Katy Moran, author of Bloodline and Bloodline Rising, will speak at the meeting at 7.30pm on Monday. Nonmembers welcome, admission is £2.

ORNITHOLOGICAL SOCIETY – Meets at the Methodist Hall on Monday, for an illustrated talk by Jim Almond on Shropshire’s Magnificent Peregrines at 7.30pm. Visitors welcome.

LIBRARY EVENTS – Rhyme times sessions are on Tuesday for the under threes from 10.30am-11am, and on December 6, a book time is planned for adults with a theme of Happy Holly Day from 10.30am-11.30am.

GARDENING CLUB – Chris Neil, the National Gardens Scheme organiser for Shropshire, will be the speaker at the meeting on Tuesday at the SHI. Doors open at 7pm for refreshments before the talk at 7.30pm.

ENGAGING ISSUES – Andrew Pinder will be the speaker at Engaging Issues on Tuesday in the URC at 7.30pm taking as his subject, The Global Banking Crisis, the Web and What Next?

FLOWER CLUB – I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas is the theme of a talk and demonstration by Sue Davies at the meeting in the village hall on Tuesday at 7.30pm. There will be a sales and coffee and mince pies.

SCHOOL NEWS – Pupils at St Lawrence’s entered a cross-country event at Moor Park and came within a couple of points of winning theyears five and six boys’ and girls’ team prizes.

Three pupils were awarded individual medals for second and third, while the under-tens girls’ football team won through to the next round of the County Cup. A blue day non-uniform event raised £245.48 for World Diabetes Day and the Friends Christmas card sale raised £242. The Friends of the School are still collecting for the Barrow of Bottles raffle later in the term.

TREE GROUP – Dr Ian Dormor will be the speaker at the meeting on Wednesday at 7.30pm in the Methodist Hall, on The Working Woods of Wenlock Edge. All welcome, admission for non-members is £3.

MAYFAIR – The day centre unit at Mayfair is holding a craft fair from 2pm-4pm on Thursday, November 29 when the Strummers will also be along to provide some sing-along entertainment. Admission is free.

Walking for Health is also available from Mayfair and a range of other activities.
