A CAREER as a south Shropshire firefighter will be highlighted at awareness sessions this weekend in a bid to attract more women and people from minority ethnic groups into the fire service.

TOWN PLAN An open meeting at the Silvester Horne Institute at 7.30pm tomorrow (Friday), will offer a chance for everyone to offer ideas on what they want for the town in the coming five years. The speaker will be Town Mayor, Bob Welch, who will open up the discussion. The meeting which has been arranged by the Strettons Civic Society COMMUNITY CINEMA The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain is the title of the film to be shown at Church Stretton School next Monday at 7.30pm. A PG Certificate film about two English cartographers who visited a small South Wales village to measure what is claimed to be a mountain, but when they classify the mound as a hill, the villagers set out to make their hill into a mountain. Admission prices £3 and £1.50 for children.

League success for Stretton juniors

Following recent successes when Church Stretton’s St Lawrence’s recently won the primary school trophy, Stretton Juniors won the three counties’ under-13s league and were runners-up in the under-11s league and Church Stretton School were runners-up in the Shropshire schools tournament.
