LOCAL COMPANY FEELS OPTIMISTIC
- “Lots of good news for Bishop’s
Castle and south west Shropshire” was
reported by Mike Ashwell, manager at
Enterprise House.
The Board of Enterprise South West
Shropshire, was told:
1. Another workshop has been let, to
renowned Three Tuns Brewery
2.The childcare initiative has launched
very successfully – candidates are
booked to start training this month
and there has been widespread local
advertising.
Shropshire Councillor Charlotte
Barnes, herself a mother of two young
children said: “This is really great
news; lack of child care locally for
some age groups has been a real
problem and it’s a real feather in the
cap of Enterprise House.”
3.The local joint committee recently
allocated £2,500 to the company so
that it can carry out a detailed piece of
planning to secure its financial future
and continue to deliver its core service
as well as taking on new and important
projects to support the area.
4.The annual grant from Shropshire
council, though reduced, has been
confirmed for the current year.
5. Directors of Enterprise South West
Shropshire are involved in the property
steering group convened by Coun
Charlotte Barnes. It is possible the
company will be involved in the future
marketing and development of the
industrial estate.
6. Income from the ASP (artificial
sports pitch) last year was greater than
expected. The floodlit pitch is a great
asset to isolated rural communities.
Users come from right across the area.
Peter Phillips from The Bog, has been
elected chairman; and Michaela
Hardwick, Bishop’s Castle as vice
chairman.
Mr Phillips said: “Last year was very
testing financially. The hard work and
loyalty of the staff at Enterprise House
have been our greatest asset. Despite
council cuts and the anxiety caused by
the recession, we look forward with
much more optimism in the
forthcoming year”

involved in the project, or just to find
out more, is welcome to come along.
