PASTORAL COMMITTEE - The committee was very pleased to welcome staff from the Women’s Refuge in South Shropshire to its meeting in November. They told members about the work which goes on to support women and children who have needed and been able to leave difficult and violent situations at home. The refuge provides not only emergency accommodation but also all the things that they may require to support them practically and emotionally, while they are there and as they plan for their future.

They may arrive with very little, maybe a few items stuffed into a carrier bag.

The refuge has little official funding and therefore relies heavily on gifts of money and suitable goods. The committee felt it would like to help in this valuable work. One way supporters can do that is to collect dry foods which the residents can use to make quickly and easily into simple meals.

To this end there is currently a box for dry foods in St Laurence’s Church and St John’s Church, until Sunday, January 24.
