FIRE crews from across South Shropshire mounted a cross border rescue when a scrap yard in Knighton went on fire in the eary hours of this morning.

Firefighters from Clun were called out just after 3.15am after a quantity of junk metal and tyres went on fire, and were quickly followed by appliances from Bishops Castle and Craven Arms.

A water carrier was also sent from Bridgenorth and two crews from Ludlow were later sent to take over from rescue workers who were still damping down the flames at breakfast time.

An investigator was also sent to determine the cause of the fire.
