IT was exactly 50 years to the day that Bitterley WI held their golden jubilee birthday party.

The occasion was celebrated with a garden party at the home of member Sheelagh Lewis.

Members were joined by county chairman Celia Rawlings, Carol one of the county trustees, presidents from neighbouring institutes, Sylvia Barrett the WI advisor, and past members.

The food as usual was fabulous - a fantastic selection of savouries and cakes.

The birthday cake took centre stage and was made by Janet and iced by Mary Jane. Alma organised the tombola, Rosalind kept us occupied with an interesting quiz.

The minute book from those early years was on show, along with the photo albums and scrap books that covered the past 50 years.

County chairman Celia presented our president Sue Marsh with not one, but two Anniversary Certificates to recognise our 50 years, one from County FWI, the other from

National FWI.

Sheelagh was presented with the bowl that members all helped to make when Albrighton Pottery came earlier this year, along with a Reflexology Voucher for inviting the group to her beautiful home and garden.

It was a wonderful birthday party, enjoyed by all. Jerusalem and Happy Birthday were sung, and everyone raised their glasses to toast Bitterley WI.

Members are hopeful that it will go from strength to strength.

The next meeting is in the village hall on July 20 at 7.30pm. The speaker is Anne Cummings, the subject is Graphology (the study of handwriting). Should you wish to join

in, you will be made very welcome.
