A RECENT charity event saw nearly 200 walkers leave Bishops Castle for Clun via Offa's Dyke, with more than half returning through the Walcot Estate and Oakeley Mynd - a total of 23 miles. Other walkers followed shorter routes through the countryside. Local organiser Jean Shirley is delighted to say that the proceeds from the day total nearly £8,000 for Bloodwise (formerly leukaemia and lymphoma research). Mrs Shirley said, "This impressive achievement is due in no small part to the generosity of the Bishop's Castle Co-op store, which donated both morning refreshments and the ingredients for a welcome hot lunch, and to Stretton Water for a seemingly limitless supply of bottled water. We are very grateful to them."

Walkers were also encouraged by the Happy Bap cafe in Bishop's Castle, which opened early to sustain walkers at the start, and the Boar's Head, Castle Hotel and Poppy House which offered 20% discounts at the end of the day.

The group pictured below were delighted with their achievement. They declared that, "We were not the fittest or the fastest but had so many reasons to complete this walk and we did. We loved it, and it was so well organised."

The next walk will take place on May 12, 2018. If you would like to take part or to help, email jeanshirley@btinternet.com.
