A BUSY programme of events has been arranged to help secure the future of the SpArc in Bishop's Castle.

Campaigners have already raised more than £60,000 for the threatened community, arts and sports facility but the effort is being stepped up.

It has started with a Great Bishop's Castle Bake Off event and was followed by the Three Tuns hosting “The Men From Off” and special guests.

Tonight, XXThursday, March 2XX, there is a quiz and curry night at the Six Bells in Church Street. Teams of four can register their team at the Six Bells. Cost is £10 per person to include a curry.

Then on Sunday, at 2.30pm there is live music at SpARc Theatre with the chance to listen to the haunting songs of Susan Raven and Satch Norton or dance to the glorious West African beats of Ubuntu Drum.

There will be a charity car-wash and table-top sale at the Public Hall in Bishop's Castle on Saturday, March 25. This event raised over £900 last year.

SpArC Theatre is also hosting Mark Zennick’s event on Thursday, March 30 at 7pm with a film screening at 7.30pm of Grow Your Own, a film, about a community of allotment holders pulling together. Food by the Chai Shop in Bishop’s Castle and a plant and seed sale.

This event is free, with donations welcomed and proceeds from sales going to the Save the SpArC fund.

Looking forward to April, Bishop’s Castle Orchestra is holding a music hall event on Sunday, April 30 again at SPaRC Theatre.

The Save the Sparc campaign has raised more than £60,000 towards improving the leisure centre and has also been awarded a community energy grant from M&S which has been used to install a new pool cover which is reducing running costs though reducing heat loss and water evaporation.
