THE Christmas lights will be switched on in Bishop's Castle on Saturday (December 3).

A procession will also go through the town to mark the start of the Christmas shopping season.

The town’s railway museum will also open between 4pm and 8pm to join the celebrations.

It is normally only open at weekends in the summer but will be making a special effort for Christmas and people will also be able to see the historic model railway featuring the station at Lydham Heath near Lydbury North.

The railway that used to run between Bishop's Castle and Craven Arms was closed 81 years ago but some of the memorabilia and artefacts have been saved.

They can be seen in the museum run by the Bishop's Castle Railway Society.

Traders in the town hope that the lights will help boost business at an important time of the year.
