THE village of Bucknell has never had a war memorial but following a breakfast in the village hall it’s getting a step closer. Sylvia Meredith and her friends served breakfasts to a continual stream of people on October 1, and raised £460 for the War Memorial Fund. This is the second fund raising event for the fund with a Queen’s birthday tea raising a hundreds of pounds. Now including donations the fund has £2,199.45 towards the £5,000 needed.

At the breakfast volunteers cooked 11 pounds of bacon, 80 eggs and lots of sausages, black puddings, beans, tomatoes and toast. Sylvia thanked all the local businesses and individuals who donated the meat, eggs, other foods and raffle prizes. She also thanked all the people who attended the event and everyone who helped out in the kitchen.
