ON April 23 a traditional English tea was served for over 80 people in Bucknell Memorial Hall to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday and St George's Day. The event raised £321 for the Bucknell War Memorial fund. Special guest on the day was the High Sheriff of Shropshire Christine Holmes. Eddie Price welcomed everyone to the event and thanked Sylvia Meredith and all her helpers for all they had done in preparation for and on the day. He told everyone that the money raised will go to get Bucknell and official war memorial something the village gas never gad. He then introduced the High Sheriff adding " I have lived in the village for 75years and I can't remember a High Sheriff every coming to visit us". The High Sheriff then spoke to everyone telling them how she had only just started the role in the beginning of April and during her term as High Sheriff wants to experience and discover the places and people of Shropshire and find out how they tick because the small communities form the fabric of our country". Christine was presented with a posy of flowers by Ellie-May Traylor and cut the special cake with main organiser Sylvia Meredith. Ninety five year old Sheila Chase was at the event, Sheila said she had only seen the Queen once in her life and that was back in the 1960s when she opened parliament. Sheila added "I really admire the Queen and think she has got the job absolutely right".
