PEOPLE will get a chance to make a direct appeal to the men at the top to secure the future of SpArC in Bishop's Castle

THE leader of Shropshire Council, Malcolm Pate, can expect tough questioning when he visits Bishop's Castle this evening (Thursday, April 14).

He will be accompanied by Clive Wright, chief executive of the council.

They will be at the South West Shropshire Local Joint Committee (LJC) when it meets at 7pm at the SpArC Centre in Bishop’s Castle.

They Council leader and chief executive will be discussing the challenging budget Shropshire Council is facing in the next three years and what the possible impact on services in the area might be.

“Earlier this year Shropshire Council published their financial strategy for the next three years which showed the need to make very big savings,” said Charlotte Barnes, who represents Bishop's Castle on the council.

“However, these savings have the potential to impact significantly on rural areas, with leisure services, public transport and highways maintenance all being affected, and members of the public are worried about losing these services.”

In addition to the agenda items, there is also an opportunity for the public to raise issues with their local councillors and make suggestions for future presentations at the meetings.

The meeting is open to the public, who are being encouraged to come to the meeting to hear the presentations and take part in the question and answer session at the meeting.
