BISHOPS Castle Town Council is putting its money where its mouth is in trying to save an arts centre in the town.

The Town Council is determined to support the SpArC facility.

It is making a £2,500 contribution to an initiative to secure the future of the arts and community centre.

“As a Town Council we need to set an example and hope that this is well received,” said Karen Bavastock, Mayor of Bishops Castle.

“I would welcome other Parish Councils support, and to that end intend to meet with our neighboring parishes to discuss how we as an area can help the current situation.

“It is the main topic of conversation locally at present and people are desperately concerned. We feel that if we all work together this situation can only improve, but it will need the support of all our neighbours, not just with words of support, but also with vital funds from budgets.”

The Town Council also agreed that when setting the budget for 2017/18 later in the year they would look at working with SpArC and the community to ensure that the facility is retained.

“It is so important that we work closely with SpArC and Shropshire Council as well as other Parish Councils locally to ensure that we can retain the valuable services on offer at SpArC,” added Karen Bavastock.

Richard Whatley, one of the campaigners fighting for the future of SpArC said the financial and morale support from the Town Council is very important.

Representatives of SpArC will be attending the Annual Town Meeting at the Town Hall in Bishops Castle on Monday 4th April starting at 7.00 p.m
