A FOCUS of the young engineers club this year has been to develop a radio controlled off road vehicle and design portfolio for the Jaguar Land Rover 4x4 in schools challenge. Sponsorship for the challenge has been provided by Teme Valley tractors who have provided us with the financial means to undertake the challenge. We have also been supported by Declan Pell, an engineering mentor from Jaguar Land Rover who has been offering advice and insight into off road vehicle design as well as supporting the team with the development of their design portfolio.

The team, which is made up of Craig Allan, Charlie Bamford, Alfie Booker, Dylan Davies and Max Ellis, recently attended the Central Regional Final which was held at Birmingham Metropolitan College. The team successfully negotiated judges scrutineering used to ensure the car met all the relevant rules and regulations. Two highly technical test tracks were completed and the students were also judged on the quality of their design portfolio, pit display and verbal presentation in which they were quizzed on the ins and outs of their vehicle design. Unfortunately the team did not win any awards at the event but enjoyed themselves and certainly represented the college in a positive manner.

We would like to thank our sponsor and our engineering mentor for their support which has been critical to our successful participation in the 4x4 in schools challenge.
