THE second meeting for 2015 was very well attended, president, Rita Preston welcomed everyone including visitors and new members.

Business was commenced with much news of many forthcoming events. Reminder for darts practice each Monday evening at The Crown, Wentnor. Also, thanks were given to County office for arranging the lunch at 'Origins', Shrewsbury College it was an enjoyable and delicious event for those of us who attended it.

Rita reminded members that County Office has moved to 9 Park Plaza, Battlefield Enterprise Park SY1 3AF. If you are in the area please go along and see it. Also mentioned was our new village hall the old one soon to be demolished, please watch this space!!!

Rita Preston then introduced Douglas Ogram, his presentation for this evening 'Running a Food Bank' CLAC (Community Larder and Advice Centre at Clun). The subject alone brings different opinions of whether they are needed or not!

The role Douglas and his wonderful volunteers do is crucial. They help to provide advice to needy people in our rural community. This Charity organisation distributes donated food to those in crisis. It also offers advice on getting financial help. A reason for referral is varied and may include a change in family circumstances, bereavement, loss of employment, awaiting benefit payments, are to name but a few. It is a very concerning time for anyone facing these issues.

Norbury WI presented Douglas with a modest donation of food/goods it is a drop in the ocean but every little helps. Douglas Ogram can be contacted through CLAC at Clun. Donations welcomed.

On a lighter note Douglas kindly judged our competition entries of a Valentine card: 1st Jayne Godsman, 2nd Jane Pugh and 3rd Brenda Jones. It proved to be a fun competition with banter and laughter.

Carrying on in our usual way members' enjoyed a fabulous supper provided by Jenny, Shirley and Rose.

Next meeting will be on March 12 at 7.30pm Norbury village hall, SY9 5EA . The speaker will be: Penny Burns "Natural Music" - come along and join in. Visitors always welcome.
