CHILDREN at Orleton Primary School will be growing their own school dinners this year, after handy bikers from South Shropshire Motorcycle Club lent a helping hand to build a new growing classroom. Julian Wild, the club’s chairman said: “We like practical projects for the community, and it’s great to help children to grow and eat healthily.”
Children at Orleton School already grow a different crop in each class. “We’ve wanted a permanent veg growing area for a very long time,” said headteacher Adam Breakwell, “and we were so lucky to get all this support to make our dream a reality. In addition to the fantastic bikers, our local Tesco store raised over £600 to get us started, and Shropshire Building Supplies gave us the materials at cost price.”
School volunteers, the handy bikers and Tesco Ludlow’s Farm To Fork co-ordinator Mandy Wild all rolled up their sleeves to build raised beds, erect a greenhouse, and make a ‘Dig For Victory Garden’ for children’s Second World War topic work.
