ON July 11 at The Summer Celebration at Newcastle Primary School, the joint gardening clubs of Bishops Castle Community College, St George's Primary School Clun and Newcastle Primary school will be launching their giant vegetable competition. At the event people will be able to register for the competition and get their plants ready to grow. The competition will be judges at the main event at Bishops castle community college on October 6. Hannah Taylor who runs the Newcastle school gardening club said "It is hoped that this event will bring together not only the three communities but also different age groups". Luci Thoday from Clun school, Jill Neal from Bishops castle college, and Hannah Taylor along with Mary Gittins from Newcastle school have been growing seeds in pots and compost that was kindly donated to the schools by Kelly Rowland, who is also the events organiser based at Dobbies in Shrewsbury. As well as the giant vegetable competition there will be a weird shaped vegetable competition and lots of stalls at the October event. If you wish to book a stall in advance contact Hannah via email on hejtaylor@yahoo.co.uk. Proceeds from the event will go to the three schools.

The summer celebration at Newcastle school starts at 4.30pm and will include a production of 'Mid Summer Nights Dream' by the children, children's games, a gardening club stall and a hog roast. Tickets for the event are available for £5 and by contacting the school on 01588 640260.
