REBECCA Morris from Llanfair Waterdine near Knighton started her round Wales walk on St David's Day, March 1. Members of her family and friends gathered to say goodbye and wish her luck in her ten week quest. Rebecca is walking all the way round Wales raising money for Shelter Cymru.

A three month trek around Wales might not be everyone's idea of a holiday, but for Rebecca it is the fulfilment of a personal ambition as well as a chance to support a charity close to her heart. Rebecca has been joined for the first part of her walk by her friend Chris Flannaghan. The route will be to walk north along Offa’s Dyke, through Denbighshire, along the north Wales coast and the Llyn Peninsula before taking in the sweep of Cardigan Bay. She then heads along the Pembrokeshire Coast path, along the south Wales coast through Swansea and Cardiff and finally into Monmouthshire, Hereford and back to her starting point by the middle of May. Rebecca will be camping for much of her walk, although she will swap a few nights under canvas for the more comfortable surroundings of a camper van when her husband Phil joins her at various points along the way.

“Not knowing exactly where I'll be spending each night seems particularly appropriate given that I’m supporting Shelter Cymru,” added Rebecca.

At the end of her first day Rebecca posted on her Facebook page “Fine weather and stunning scenery Llanfairwaterdine to Churchstoke. Had a great send off from friends and family. Am I really doing this?”At the end of day two she wrote “Today has been like spring. Sun, lambs, primroses. The big challenge has been mud. 45 miles done. 1005 to go”.

Shelter Cymru believes that everyone has the right to a decent and secure home. They provide free, specialist, legal advice to anyone with a housing problem. Last year, their advisers helped nearly 16,000 people and prevented homelessness in 89 per cent of relevant cases. Through their research, education and campaigning work, they aim to address the causes of bad housing and homelessness and work to improve services and legislation.
