BRIDES’ FASHION SHOW - The recent bridal fashion show at Bishops Castle public hall raised £788 for the children’s cancer unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Thanks to everyone for their support.

STONE HOUSE GARDEN PARTY - Staff and residents at Stone House Coverage Care in Bishops Castle invite everyone to their garden party on September 1.

Local light music group Anything Goes will be there to entertain and organisers promise tea, a plant stall, tombola, a prize draw and a cake stall.

The afternoon begins at 2.30pm and assistant manager Edna Jones said: “We hope the weather will be kind to us this year and that our new mini bus will be on display. The Friends of Bishops Castle Community, Home and Hospital do so much to support us and they have given a large donation to help us make the purchase, for which we are very grateful.”

SUMMER FITNESS CLASSES - Fitness classes at the Teme SpArC leisure centre in Bishops Castle have been very well attended during the summer, with aerobics, pilates, aqua fit, cardio, kettleblast, circuits, suspension and Swiss ball sessions, all proving popular with people of all ages. SENIOR SAFETY EVENT - The community college in Bishops Castle is the venue for a senior safety event on Tuesday. The day runs from 10am to 2pm and includes a free lunch. If you want to go you must make a booking as soon as possible by ringing 01743 342162 and free transport is available.

There will be talks from members of the West Mercia Police, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Falls Prevention team and their aim is to help you find out information about your health and how to keep yourself and your home safe. Experts will be on hand to give help and advice on pensions, benefits and money issues as well as support for unpaid carers. The day has been organised by the Preventative Services Team at Shropshire Rural Community Council and you will be made very welcome.

WENTNOR FETE - The annual Wentnor fete will be on Bank Holiday Monday in the grounds of the Old Rectory. The day starts at 1pm with a hog roast, followed by the fete, a fun dog show and the grand prize draw.

The event is in aid of the parishes of Wentnor, Ratlinghope, Norbury and Myndtown (and Norbury village hall).

Attractions at the fete include a bouncy castle, cake stall, nearly new stall, tombola, garden produce and plants. The Rev Norman Morris is looking for people to donate things for the stalls and he says, “Plants, vegetables and homemade cakes are always popular, so offers will be gratefully received. Rose Jones and Lorna Middleton need tombola prizes and organisers could do with more good quality books to sell on the day.

Prizes for the tombola can be left at Wentnor shop, while Gilly Bachelor and Rita Preston will be happy to accept your unwanted bric-a-brac.”
