TENNIS NEWS - Bishops Castle Tennis Club held its mixed doubles competition on June 30 at the courts on Love Lane. The winners were Sally Diplock and Will Croom-Johnson. The club has recently completed the resurfacing of the two hard courts and this makes a total of three courts, with one an all weather surface. As well as club nights, social activities and competitions for adult players, the club has an active programme of training for junior players, with coaching by Andy Murray. AWARD FOR JOYCE - Joyce Millard, from Bishops Castle travelled to Shifnal on June 20 to receive an award from the NHS Blood and Transplant Service.

CASTLE PLAYERS’ INVITATION - Bishops Castle’s long established drama society The Castle Players is looking for new people to come along to its social evening at the Three Tuns in Bishops Castle on Thursday, July 11.

SPORTS DAY - Bishops Castle Primary School hold their sports day on the morning of July 12, followed by the summer fair at 1pm. The fair will go ahead even if it is too wet for the sports and everyone in the town is welcome.

HELP IN A CRISIS - A new confidential support and advice centre can help you and it also offer up to three days of emergency food to people in crisis.

SWEET and SAVOURY - Two events in Lydbury North have raised money for the Rainbow Ward at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. A sweet and savoury taster evening at the Powis Arms raised £301, while a concert in the church brought in a further £423.

ROUNDERS MATCH SUCCESS - Parishes in the Onny Camlad Group met at Norbury village hall for a rounders tournament on June 21. The event attracted teams from Ratlinghope, Wentnor, Norbury, Criftin, Myndtown, and Churchstoke with over 50 players of all ages taking part. Norbury emerged as the champions, narrowly defeating Myndtown by 11 ½ rounds to one. The cup will be presented at the Wentnor fete on August 24.

NURSERY RHYME THEME FOR FLOWER FEST - The flower festival begins on July 13. The church will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm with 24 floral displays depicting different nursery rhymes. Children are invited to dress up as their favourite nursery character and pupils of Norbury School give a recital at 4pm on Sunday followed by prize giving and the raffle draw. The event also includes an historical walk around the village as well as refreshments, cake stall and plant stall at the rectory on both days.
