TENBURY United manager Colin Powell believes Saturday’s 3-1 home win against Mahal Reserves in West Midlands League Division Two was their best victory for three seasons.

Two goals from Mike Foster and one from Sam Williams saw Tenbury home, which gives Powell renewed optimism that the team can now kick on.

“It was a very good performance - the best I have seen in the last two or three seasons,” said Powell.

“I would have to give them all nine out of 10 for effort.

“Foster is doing really well, but he will be the first to admit that he should have got at least a hat-trick on Saturday.

“We tend to kick-on from around October to December, so hopefully we can get a good run going, starting with Bartestree at home on Saturday.”

Tenbury Town made it three wins out of three by trouncing local rivals Orleton 4-1 in the Herefordshire League Division Three.

Alex Bright got a brace, with Chris Patton and Ian Patterson getting the other goals.

Church Stretton will be hoping to bounce back on Saturday, when they travel to struggling Whitchurch Alport after only drawing at home to Morda United last weekend in Mercian League Premier Division.

Second-placed Stretton went into the game with a depleted side and found themselves a goal behind at half-time, but they bounced back and equalised through playermanager Joe Leask.

“We are still unbeaten at home and we now face Whitchurch and then Ketley, who are both struggling,”

said Leask.

“Ludlow are a point ahead of us, but have two games in hand, so we don’t want them to get away from us.”

Hat-tricks from Luke Mellor and Jack Wilson fired Bishop’s Castle to an 8-1 win at Morda United Reserves in Division One.

Player-manager Andy Green and George Mellor also got on the scoresheet for Castle.

Castle are home to local rivals Clee Hill on Saturday, who lost 3-2 to Oswestry Lions.

Holders Bucknell and Newcastle crashed out of the Pip Samuel (Electrical) Mid Wales League Cup at the first-round stage on Saturday.

Bucknell lost 1-0 to Llandrindod Reserves, while Newcastle’s slump continued as they went down 2-1 at Sennybridge.

Richard Williams hit Newcastle's goal.
