AFC Ludlow 2 Telford Juniors 0

DAVE Cooper is confident AFC Ludlow can lay the ghost of Morda after seeing his team storm to the top of the Mercian League Premier Division.

Morda were Ludlow’s bogey team last season having beaten them four times, which included slaying them in the Shropshire County League Cup final at Shrewsbury.

But Cooper says this Saturday’s home fixture holds no fears for Ludlow.

“I said last year that Morda were the best side in the league and should have won it.

“With the new lads we have got I think we’re a better side this year so I’m hopeful we can get something from the game,” said Cooper.

“The way we’ve been playing in the last few games the lads are confident of beating whoever we face.”

Ludlow stormed to the top of the league after a solid 2-0 win against 10-man Telford Juniors last Saturday.

The home side struggled to break down their visitors’ rearguard in the first-half and then saw an effort by Jake Pryce ruled out for offside.

But, Danny Gower did open the account shortly after the break, before grabbing his second goal, with 15 minutes left.

“I thought all of our players performed superbly,”

said Cooper.

“Telford Juniors are a strong, physical side but we more than handled that and I thought we were the better side.

“It’s going to be tough to stay at the top of the league, but we are confident as a squad.

“We have got in a few boys like John Haycox, Sean Evans and Scott Davies.”
