A NEW brew has got off to a flying start at The Clun Beer Festival.

Up ‘n’ Down, from Hobsons Brewery in Cleobury Mortimer was given big thumbs up.

The new ale has been produced to continue promotion of the Walking with Offa initiative which supports rural pubs ‘Up ‘n’ Down’ the English and Welsh border.

“The circular Walking with Of fa pub walks have been a great success and we are hoping to develop more from different rural pubs in the future,” said Clare Fildes, development of ficer for the Shropshire Hills Area of Natural Beauty Partnership.

“Up ‘n’ Down continues the promotion of these walks and 5p from every pint sold is going towards conserving and sustaining the Shropshire Hills.”

Jack Limond, from the White Horse Inn, Clun, said a good pint is a great way to finish a bracing walk.

“What better way is there to spend an autumn day in the beautiful Shropshire Hills, than going on a walk punctuated by a foaming beer in front of a real fire in a real pub."

There is also a competition, encouraging people to visit three different pubs in the local area, and sum up the setting of each in a word or two on the back of an Up ‘n’ Down beer mat.

People taking part get their beer mats stamped and get a chance to win a bumper Hobsons prize pack, including lunch and a case of beers.
