A SOUND that was part of life in Tenbury for decades is back again.

The clock at St Mary’s Church has called time in the town for as long as many people can remember.

But just over a year ago in the summer of 2011 it fell silent.

It was a silence that proved deafening and early this year a fund was started to raise the £3,000 needed to get the chimes going again.

A collision between the clock clanger and the church bells that are in the same area of the tower caused the hourly chimes to come to an abrupt halt and the clock chimes fell silent.

At first it was believed that the work would be fairly minor but an expert examination revealed that the damage was worse than had been thought.

Locals quickly clocked what was needed and in just a few months the money has been found.

Further fund- raising for the church takes place on Saturday, when there will be a Table Top Sale between 10am and 12 noon.
