Volunteers to build the new Ludlow Boxing Club

THE bell has rung for the first round in the building of the new Ludlow Boxing Club.
Ludlow mayor Tony Pound, Shropshire Council leader Keith Bar row and Martin Holland, chief executive of Shropshire Housing Association, marked the start of work.
Building will mostly be undertaken by volunteers under the guidance of Colin Richards, Shropshire Council’s conservation officer.
SHA will have overall responsibility for the project and Ludlow Town Council is also a partner. It is hoped that the shell of the building will be completed by the end of the year or early 2013.
An anonymous donation of £10,000 has been made to the club and when it is all finished the facility will allow boxing as well as other community activities.
The original Boxing Club was demolished in December but the start of work on the new building was delayed while health and safety as well as insurance issues relating to the use of volunteer labour were sorted out.
