Tenbury 36 pts Bromyard 15.

CAPTAIN Pete Stevens hailed Tenbury’s “heroes” after they came out on top against local rivals Bromyard.

Between 50 and 60 people watched a titanic clash between the two sides at Palmer’s Meadow, with the win ensuring that Tenbury remain unbeaten in Midlands Four West (North).

“It was another good result and we deserved to win,” said Stevens.

“Our backs ran the show and were really impressive.

“It is a very young side, with myself being by far the oldest in the squad at 36, but every single player has been brilliant.”

He added: “They just don’t want the games to stop and the work they are doing is just amazing.

“Chuck Parry was man-of-the-match on Saturday as he had an absolutely superb game, but each week it is someone else who gets picked.

“They are all heroes at the moment.”

Tenbury got off to a fine start and opened the scoring through an Alex Brazier penalty.

Richard Wozencroft then increased the hosts’ lead by scoring under the posts and when Sam Haves got a try of his own, which was converted by Brazier, it looked like there would only be one winner.

Indeed, by half-time it was 22-3 to Tenbury, with Parry also getting among the tries but, to their credit, Bromyard came out fighting at the start of the second period to reduce the arrears to 22-8.

But any hope that the away side would seal a memorable comeback soon disappeared when Andrew Wilkes went under the posts for Tenbury.

Brazier also scored a try, as well as converting two more penalties, to make it a comfortable win in the end. “The crowd were brilliant and were once again our 16th man - you cannot knock them,” said Stevens. He added: “We were buzzing after the game and had a good celebration - there were even a good amount of Bromyard supporters who stopped for a drink.”

Stevens added that the team’s success at the moment is down to fitness and encouragement.

“There is a team of 20 at the moment and everyone is fighting to get into the team,” he said.

“These have been the best performances that Tenbury have produced for a long time.”

On Saturday, Tenbury travel to Five Ways, who currently sit bottom of the table.
