Ludlow woman weds sweetheart in the French alps
A LUDLOW family now living in the French Alps had thoughts of the hills of home on a very special day.
Katie Weatherall, daughter of Adrian and Patricia Weatherall, now resident in Briançon in the French Alps, but who lived at Linney Villa, Ludlow until 2010, married Richard Fiander son of Raymond and Hilary Fiander, formerly of Southampton, at la Salle de Mariage Briançon.
The civil ceremony in the old town was followed by a service at l'Eglise de Puy St Pierre and a reception at le Chalet Pralong.
In November Richard and Katie, pictured right, will be opening the doors of their new restaurant, La Vieille Écurie, in La Vachette near Briançon.
Katie, 32, was a pupil at St Laurence School and Moor Park School in Ludlow.
She learned her love of France and the mountains as a child during skiing holidays with her family.
The place where they now live is a honey pot for tourists, winter sports enthusiastis, walkers and cyclists.
It is also a regular on the Tour De France and includes two of the legendary mountain passes in the greatest bike race on earth.
Both Katie and her husband, aged 40, have previous experience working in the hospitality industry.
Adrian Weatherall was a solicitor in Ludlow with Greens in Broad St for 30 years and Chairman of Ludlow Festival for five years.
“We were drawn to the mountains after I retired but come back to Ludlow from time to time,” he said.
