GAVIN Tsang shot to fame on TV’s So You Think You Can Dance? but he hasn’t forgotten his roots.

He’s going back to those roots to nurture new talent coming through Ludlow’s Insteps Dance Studio.

Gavin, from Shrewsbury, has worked with Instep’s principal Leianne Jukes before and he’s coming back to take a series of free dance workshops that mark the launch of the academy’s new base at the Bishop Mascall Centre.

As reported by the Advertiser, the academy – specialising in ballet, tap, modern theatre and street dance for students as young as eight months – has spent the summer hotfooting across town from its previous studio on the Burway Trading Estate.

Insteps is having its grand opening at Bishop Mascall on Saturday, September 29, and Gavin is doing the honours.

Since So You Think You Can Dance? in 2010, Gavin has gone on to choreograph for cruise ships and has just finished a theatre tour of Miss Saigon in Holland.

He said: “I am really looking forward to seeing the new facility and delivering fun and enjoyable workshops for people of all ages.

“I didn’t start dancing until I was 18 so it is never too late to get involved, please feel free to come over and join in.”

On the day, Gavin will be running two workshops which are free to everyone to come and take part.

The first will be from 10.30am to 11.30am and will be for five to 10- year-olds. The second, from 11.45pm to 1.15pm, will be for people aged 11 and over.

Leianne said the workshops were a fantastic opportunity for the town to see the new studios and get involved in dance.
