Kidderminster Victoria 114 Tenbury 115-4.

CAPTAIN Aaron Morris believes newly-promoted Tenbury could have a season to remember after they went third in the Worcestershire County League Division Three table on Saturday following an impressive win against Kidderminster.

Tenbury bounced back in emphatic style following a 124-run defeat against Harborne in their previous outing and Morris is hoping that the team can now build on the win.

“At the start of the season, our aim was to stay in the league or be mid-table, but after playing everyone once, we will reassess and may be aim a bit higher,” said Morris.

“It has been an interesting start. We played Himley, who were in our league last year and it was a really good win against them.

“The game against Harvington was called off, then we lost to Harborne, which was just a blip really, which every team is allowed to have.

“We are now third in the league and I would have taken that at the start of the season.”

Kidderminster had already posted 90 runs before Morris got Tenbury’s first wicket and at that stage it looked likely that the home side could get a score of around 180.

But an amazing spell of bowling saw Tenbury take six wickets for just nine runs as Edward Corfield and Morris obliterated the Kidderminster attack with their spin. Corfield finished with figures of 4-17, while Morris got 3-17.

Joe Reynolds (1-2) was also among the wicket-takers.

“They just crumbled and couldn’t cope with our bowling,” said Morris.

“The wickets came at regular intervals and we managed to slow down the run-rate. It was a very good win.”

Bruce Mason (43) and Andrew Adams (27) were the key batsmen that led Tenbury to the required total, while Alex Mason also grabbed 16 runs.

Morris said that the Mason brothers have both performed well this season, but that there are no outstanding players in the team.

“Everyone has chipped in which has been key to us doing well,” he said.

“We play Malvern at home on Saturday and have been told that they are not the strongest of sides, so I’m quietly confident that we can win.”

l Tenbury 2nd were also celebrating after beating Kidderminster Victoria 2nd by six wickets.

Jack Farrar bagged five wickets to finish with impressive figures of 5-44, while Gareth Edwards (3-25) was also key to Tenbury bowling out Kidderminster for 147 off 47 overs.

Wicket-keeper David Hunt (34), Neil Crump (29 no) and captain Chris Giles (28) then helped Tenbury get the required runs.
