Wroxeter and Uppington 69 Ludlow 70-0.

LUDLOW scorer Phil Parker was delighted that the team “got it right for once” after they crushed Wroxeter and Uppington by 10 wickets on Saturday, writes Paul Rogers.

An unbeaten 48 off 36 balls by Will Sparrow saw Ludlow home and in doing so ensured that they lifted themselves off the bottom of the Shropshire County League Premier Division table.

“It was a very good win and we knocked them off quite easily, ” said Parker.

“They have got some good cricketers and it was not an easy pitch to bat on, but we got it right for once.

“With the weather conditions of late, it has been a bit awkward, but we are very satisfied as it is a big win for us.”

Sparrow — who was helped in getting his knock by Sam Edwards — was also among the wicket-takers when he removed Bryan Jones for eight.

Wroxeter were already two wickets down by that stage after Joe Maiden had removed Nick Beavan and Tom Home. Maiden soon got rid off Ed Davies to leave Wroxeter 27-4.

There was then no stopping Ludlow as captain Louis Watkins also took three wickets to remove Wroxeter’s middle-order batsmen and Peter Coote chipped in with two himself to leave the home side battered and bruised.

Ludlow now hope to build on the win when they host Worfield on Saturday.

“Some things haven’t gone our way in previous games, but hopefully we can now kick-on, as after Worfield, we have got four of the best sides in the league coming up,” said Parker.

l There was less joy for Ludlow 2nd though as they lost by four wickets to Wroxeter and Uppington.

Only Steve Small (45), Matthew Hawes (35 no) and Joe Webb (16) got into double figures as Ludlow were skittled out for 138.

In reply, Nathan Fern’s 57 was key to Wroxeter and Uppington getting the required runs needed, with Jamie Doran (23 no) and Duncan Brearley (14) also getting useful runs.

James Hunt was the pick of Ludlow’s bowlers with 2-22, while Simon Lane (1-30), Richard Taylor (1-24) and Glen Whittaker (1-4) all getting one wicket apiece.
