Walkers are all set for Shropshire hills Redwoods Challenge walk

CLEE Hill will feature in a sponsored walk to help improve facilities for those suffering from mental illness.

Staff from South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be setting off on a 54 mile walk this Friday, May 18. The Redwoods Challenge is a sponsored walk over two days across four hills of Shropshire – Clee, Caradoc, Wenlock and the Wrekin.

The aim is to promote Shropshire’s new mental health inpatient facility, The Redwoods Centre, due to open in September, and the closure of Shelton Hospital which was opened in 1845.

The Redwoods Centre is a new £46m replacement for Shelton Hospital. The main buildings of the new centre are to be named after the four Shropshire hills which make up the walk.

“The Redwoods Challenge is part of a range of events to promote mental health awareness and the work of our Trust,” said Steve Jones, chairman of the Trust.

“We are also taking this opportunity to raise the profile of mental health and support both MIND and Combat Stress who do such good work in this field.”

The walk will start from the main road car park at Titterstone Clee car park at 7.30am.
