AN APPEAL has been made for a translator to help when a delegation from Croatia comes to Ludlow on a fact finding mission.

The visitors will be in the town and visiting other places in the Marches on a mission organised jointly by the British Council and the European Commission.

It is a three day visit that will learn about the working of social enterprises and community interest companies in the area.

These are organisations like the South Shropshire Furniture Scheme and the Skill Builders initiative that are run like commercial business but meet a community and social need.

"Ludlow is once again able to demonstrate a strong, vibrant and sustainable community way of working well outside the boundaries of the UK,” said Graeme Perks of Skill Builders.

“The three delegates are keen to find out how Social Enterprise and ethical business thrives here in Ludlow.

“We are working with the Food Festival, the Assembly Rooms, the Furniture scheme, the Rumanian Skills project, the Ludlow Conference Centre, local trusts, community groups and the Earl of Plymouth Estates and many other key doers, to put together a very informative programme.

Although members of the delegation are expected to the fluent in English Graeme believes that it important to try to find a volunteer who can speak Croatian.

“It would be good to at least add their language in some of the presentations and even to be able to say welcome. They speak English very well and email perfectly but we should make the effort,” said Graeme Perks.

The delegation from Croatia will be in Ludlow and the Marches from Sunday, January 29, until Tuesday, January 31.
