Wroxeter Rovers 7 Clee Hill 1 CLEE Hill “shot themselves in the foot” after collapsing to a dismal 7-1 defeat at Wroxeter Rovers.

The result keeps them rooted to the foot of the Shropshire County League’s first division but boss Wayne Whitbread said his side put in a good shift and just need to cut out individual errors.

“The performance wasn’t that bad,” he said.

“We just made critical mistakes in bad areas of the pitch.

“Both sides played really good football but we probably contributed to five of their seven goals.

“After a mistake-free couple of weeks we shot ourselves in the foot. I think it’s just a lack of concentration.

“If you were watching the game but didn’t see the goals you wouldn’t have thought there was much between the sides.”

Clee Hill were hoping to build on the previous week’s win at Wrockwardine Wood, their first of the season, but trailing 4-0 at the break were effectively out of the game early on.

They picked up in the second period and Adam Warren finally put them on the scoresheet after converting a Nick Wilding throughball.

Late goals, however, gave Wroxeter a flattering victory.

“Our heads didn’t drop and if we would have kept it to 1-1 in the second half I would have been happy,” added Whitbread ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Meole Brace.

“After last Saturday’s result I would take a point there.

“If we cut out the mistakes we will have a chance.”
