Tenbury 13 pts Bishop’s Castle & Onny Vale 0
TENBURY quickly recovered from the previous weekend’s first-day defeat at Cannock, when they opened their home campaign in Midlands 3 West North with a comfortable win against local rivals Bishop’s Castle at Palmer’s Meadow.
Tenbury made a positive start to the game, and were keen to put pressure on the Castle defence.
After a sustained spell of attacking the home side took the lead when Freddie Hughes converted a penalty from 25 metres.
The game settled down and Tenbury always posed a threat with Dean Gervis supplying some quick ball from the back of the set-pieces.
A handling offence presented Castle with a kickable penalty, however, it was missed.
Tenbury were soon back on the attack and, under pressure, the visitors conceded another penalty.
Laurence Hughes took a quick tap for Gervis to feed Charlie Fernihough, who crashed over for the first try.
Freddie Hughes landed the conversion and stretched their lead to 13-0 when he kicked his second penalty.
Another enterprising attack from Tenbury ended with the ball being spilled on the Castle line.
The second half was a close tussle with Gervis adjudged to have been held up over the line in one attack.
