Impact United 1 Ludlow Town 2

A BRACE from Danny Gower led Ludlow back to winning ways in the Premier Division of the Sportsjamkits.com Shropshire County League Town gained control of the game in the first half, and then despite conceding the majority of possession after the break, they held on without too many alarms.

Town settled quickly despite the match being played in blustery conditions on a hard pitch.

They took the lead midway through the first period when Gower fired the ball home from the edge of the box after Dale Hodge had laid it through to him.

The same combination extended the lead. Hodge laid on the chance once again and Gower doubled his tally.

Ludlow were in charge at this stage, and should have extended their lead, but on this occasion Dale Hodge struck a post.

Telford-based Impact reduced the deficit when they scored from a free header at a corner just before the break.

The home side dominated the possession in the second half but made little impression on a hard-working Town defence.

Ludlow still created the better chances.

Town face a difficult return trip to Telford this weekend when they take on the unbeaten Telford Juniors.

Meanwhile, Church Stretton drew 0-0 in their first home game of the season with Wellington Amateurs Reserves at Russells Meadow.

Facing a side which did the double over them last season in Division 1, Stretton had the better of the game.

Playing with the wind in the first half, the home side almost snatched the lead when Matt Tudor struck the bar.

Stretton played a better passing game in the second half and looked far more dangerous.

Right-back Ben Freeman made a solid debut for Stretton and stand-in keeper Daniel Powell coped well.
